    The long way home
While some of the results on BAT can be eye popping, there is a specific risk in using that format that comes with a no sale - enduring, searchable failure.

If for any reason your lot fails to sell - bad timing, other examples on the market, just not the right buyers looking at the time - that failed result will live on. The nuance of the situation on that day will fade, but the high bid on that day will forever be tied to that car & VIN. So, as a seller, you'll constantly face a headwind when dealing with buyers... Why didn't it sell? What's wrong with it? If it only bid up to *this* much, why would I pay more now? etc...

BAT is very good at what they do... Just make sure the car you're selling is 'what they do' ;)

As a person in the business. That is more of proof of the audience of bring a trailer vs cars and bids.

Believe it or not some cars do better on cars and bids than bring a trailer.

It's all about audience when it comes to auctioning a car.

Gooding and co does an amazing job at selling some of the best most specific European cars on the planet. They bring massive money and bring more money than BAT.

But... Gooding typically brings the lowest price for mustang boss 429s.

Mecum on the other hand sets records with boss 429s.

Would I auction a McLaren F1 or an f12tdf at mecum?

    No...

Keep an eye out for listings daily if you are not already. One R8 owner had one listed today he was awaiting and it just appeared without notice to him and with needed corrections.

Wow, if you want a 355 Spider, this is it!

I am not even a 355 guy but this listing is making me think about one.

I think this will do very well on BaT.

According to BAT, this was just withdrawn from there due to a sale outside of the auction.

I've seen explanations for other withdrawals but this is the first for this (of ones I've watched).

Not allowed and will get you banned the other direction as well if you don't complete a purchase.

In the 2.5+ months I had the car for sale, there were numerous interested parties prior to my listing on BAT. One of these happened to be in my area on Tuesday. I showed the car and accepted an offer on the spot. Clearly I violated the BAT rules--and I take responsibility for that. Let's not debate the ethics of it. I'm banned. But my preference was always to sell to a buyer face-to-face. There was far less risk for me accepting an offer in person than dealing with remote buyers. And even though BAT is a nice platform with established policies, if a buyer backs out, BAT is protected--not the seller. I notified BAT on Tuesday afternoon so they could end the auction but they did not cancel the auction until today.

On the flip side, it is implied that BAT limits makes/models of similar vehicles running concurrently. I paid my fee and waited 2 months for this listing, but BAT listed another red 355 3 days into my auction. I was not thrilled to see that.

Finally, while I realize most of the action occurs on the final day, the high bid was nowhere near my reserve.

Honestly. Good for you man. I sincerely mean that. There are plenty of horror stories buying and selling on BaT. So, it is what it is, hard to say most of us wouldn’t have done the same.

Good for you, man. Like the other guy said, we'd have all likely done the same. BaT has a great format and their is no denying their reach these days, but the comments from the peanut gallery can make or break a sale - and it can be relentless. And while posting in forums like these also has it's fair share of idiotic commentary, you are still free to make your deal without anyone else's involvement. I also can't believe it takes 8 weeks to post a car.

Geez, looking at some of the comments you'd think he killed someone. While it may not have been in great taste to end the auction, it was only bid up to maybe 75% of the value. Worse things have happened.
