The factory has just implemented a new software for the worldwide Classiche agents telling the inspector/mechanic exactly HOW the photos have to be done (angle, light, background, etc.) and when you upload the pix the Classiche program will automatically tell you if pic is good enough or not.

I do believe that if your car needs a restoration starting from the chassis, the body and the mechanics and be sure to get the certification at end of the journey, the better place is Maranello

I disagree. My local (Orlando) Ferrari dealership showed me the Classiche portal and they have example images and specific requirements for the photography. It's very well demarcated. And there are plenty of shops that will do a proper restoration, you just have to do your research.

I think he was replying to Marcel's comment.

I think those of you curious about who is behind the Specter account should try asking them in person via PM, perhaps you will find the answer you seek. Last I checked you are not obliged to make any private information public in this forum, even though it may help with others' trust. It also seems to me like mr or mrs specter is still coming to grips with how the forum works, so maybe give them time...

"Specter" seems to be unwilling to post any pix of his car and prefers to let others do the work.............and doesn't even remember the serial number in the beginning.............and then suddenly becomes friend with Fabio Menegon, Marketing Director at Ferrari Classiche in Maranello, after initially claiming he doesn't even know the certification process......

Again, in my experience, a lot of people who can afford these cars are sometimes deficient in internet forum skills, unwilling to give away private information, or, in most cases, both. If it's annoying then maybe best to ignore the thread....

By the way I'm not trying to belittle the generosity of FChat members. Just saying, we don't always get the kind of reciprocity we want.

I think it is fair to say that if you’re goal is to be assured that you get a Red Book, then going with Classiche is your highest-probability route.

Of course that is not necessarily the same thing as getting the most accurate restoration, or the restoration that is the best “bang for the buck”.

Even just in general “best” is a very subjective thing. I’ve looked at a handful of freshly-restored cars (all by well-known shops in the US; one actually claimed to be awarded Platinum), and while all were gorgeous, I (and I am not even a Judge or anything like that) noticed things that were not correct on all of them, and (to me) all were over-restored to the point that they likely did not represent what cars looked like when they rolled out of the factory. So none represented my idea of “best”, and all could have been more accurate... So Classiche is unlikely to be perfect, and unlikely to produce a car that will be to every person’s taste.

Oh, and of course, having a Red Book is in many ways a pretty low bar, because (at least historically) Classiche lets a host of incorrect things exist on a car while still qualifying for certification. So (at least for “bead and butter” cars) getting a Red Book is not as hard as getting every detail right.

    All just my opinion/perspective.

Whether you like it or not, whether or not you can get a better restoration elsewhere. A car being tagged as having been restored at the factory is always going to have the perception of being at a higher level.

I not agree with this. the factory restauration is for sure good, but if you let it do by other peolpe, not involved directly with the factory you may get a better result because they also will improve a little what has been made 30 or more years ago not so good. even a new car you can dismantle and put togetehr again by improving a lot of things what for the first sight you not even can see
