Right now there is a virtual three-way tie for second place in the AL East. If the season ended right now, the Red Sox would be on the outside looking in - by ONE percentage point!

(If they all play 162 games, that can't happen. But what if there was a genuine three-way tie for the two wild-card spots? What would the tiebreaker be?)

Both the Giants and the Dodgers have been playing their best baseball of the year. Coming down to the wire. In fact it could end up a tie with a one game playoff to decide who wins the division. The loser has to play the wild card game THE NEXT DAY!

The Yankees seem to have developed what a New York Post headline once called a "Staff Infection". They lost the last two at home to the mediocre Indians 11-3 and 11-1, and today even Gerrit Cole was afflicted, giving up 7 earned runs in less than 6 innings. Oy vey!

Really excited to follow the last four teams in the American League who hope to end up in the Wildcard series.

    Yankees 2 games ahead.
    Boston
    Seattle
    Toronto 1 game behind.

    ——

    Yankees vs Tampa
    Boston vs D.C.
    Seattle vs LA Angels
    Toronto vs Baltimore.

    —-

    Whit Merrifield from the Royals

Congratulations on becoming a 40-40 player
He is one of seven players who hit 40 doubles and stole 40 bases. Impressive.

The Dodgers could theoretically win 106 games this year -- and finish 2nd.

    That's practically unheard of.

Both the Dodgers and the Giants have had monster years. And St. Louis might be the hottest team right now going into the post season. None of these teams like to lose as of late.

Kyle Tucker is such an underrated young player.

He is not the type to cause any controversy and waive in front of the cameras.

The guy had a horrible April and May and was barreling up the ball but outfielders grabbed his line drives.

Since the ASG Tucker has outproduced both Vlad Guerrero and Ohtani with OPS !!

You will not hear about that :(

.917 OPS on the season :D.

I was hoping for a four-way tie with the American W.C. series.

Did not want N.Y. and Boston.

Seattle shot themselves in the foot with the hapless Angels.

    Toronto ran out of games.

The Baltimore Orioles set a dubious record by finishing 39 games behind the team ahead of them in their division. They eventually fell into a tie with the Diamondbacks for the worst record in MLB. Baltimore fans must be tired of that by now.

And has a team with 106 wins ever failed to win its division before?

Hopefully loss to bosox will finally cause yanks to pull plug on this team. Fundamentally unsound with everyone playing out of position, always injured, don't know how to run bases, can bash 450' homers if crappy pitcher makes mistake but cannot do anything v elite pitcher. Time to re think this team

Yes judge value peak now after healthy season. Wont be duplicated again. Glayber and sanchez also have to go. And if cashman thinks hicks will ever be healthy, he's probably a boston double agent.

In reality the winning formula, is to build with young prospects and fill the holes (the prospects who did not pan out) with select free agents. You do not build most of the team with free agents. I understand Judge came up as a prospect.

    Player's reach peak performance, at 27 y/o.

With the final four teams, it is a matter of luck which team crosses the finish line. (2001 Mariners). Some guys step up and others step down with the post-season pressure.

No luck involved w tampa, la, or astros. All 3 great teams way ahead of yanks. Sf and Boston outliers needing luck. Yanks are just little above average.

HOLY MOLEY! What a freakin game! Awesome pitching the entire time. Normally I would criticize Dave Roberts but everything he called today was perfection.

GIANTS / DODGERS for the first time in post season. EPIC is coming!

Amazing that the Dodgers and Giants haven't played a game after the regular season ended since the famous 1951 playoff game with Bobby Thomson hitting "the shot heard 'round the world"!

Most steals of home that I've seen have been on the front end of a double-steal. A pure steal of home, like the Rays pulled last night, is very rare, and IMO, the most exciting play in baseball, rivaled only by an inside-the-park home run.

So one night the Red Sox get shut out, the next night they score 14 runs. They need to spread them out more! :D
