    Good day Paul,

I did not realize (until now) that the 365 BB's had a different location for the mounting coil than the 512's... very cool...

Also, the distributor pickup looks slightly different (more blocky) than the one on my car. Is this pickup a new replacement one or NOS?

    Cheers,

    Sam

Can someone please start a go fund me pg. for me to get my car restored by Newman. :)

Paul, I think I figured out why cars after the 27th 365 was built had a tow hook; that guy actually drove the car. LOL.

No not yet but its just a pain thing off and on, not function. I might have a built in barometer in my leg now, just glad my knee didn't bend backwards. I'll take a break any day over a pelican leg!

Just updating the thread. Still waiting on the seats and door pocket material.

Love the mouse hair dash look but Im afraid to touch it so I dont.

The white paint was flaking off the inside of the signal lights which is common, the reflectors usually need some attention as well but look great when restored with the frosted lenses.

Those signal lights look amazing. Are they all painted white under the lenses? I have always thought of converting to clear lenses. They aren’t cheap though.

They are all painted white including the light socket regardless of the lens used. I prefer the frosted vs the orange, if you go frosted change the bulb to amber. The new (expensive) lenses available today look OEM but dont fit as well and are not as flat, its hit and miss if its going to fit the opening and follow the flat surface its mounted in. Sometimes the corners stick up while the straight sections are flush, cant adjust for that. The ones in this 365 are OEM, the ones that were in it when the car arrived so they fit as they should.

would it not be possible to 3-d print the lenses in clear and in yellow/orange?

    Good day Romano,

Anything is possible. However, 3D printing a semi transparent material would be a real challenge. A lot of 3D printers use an additive process and so you get fine lines between each layer that is printed. A resin based printer may work, but I am unsure if you can find a resin that is translucent enough needed for a lens. The best method would be to take a mold from an original and then cast a new lens with the proper acrylic, etc. This is pretty straight forward for those who have experience, but it is time consuming, etc. Given Paul's and other experiences comments, the lenses seem to have variances between cars and/or possibly because of manufacturing inconsistencies with the current replacement offerings? I say this, as on the 365/400/412 model series it seems that virtually all new replacement lenses require a fair amount of tweaking and modifications to have them fit properly. With that said, treat your original lenses gingerly!

    Cheers,

    Sam

Read through the entire thread (where did my morning go?) and the work (and photos) are phenomenal.

As an unrelated aside, thanks to Newman for a billet differential case (sold to me for my TR in 2018). It finally went into the car this fall, and, from yesterday's first test drive, is working flawlessly.

Paul, you may remember me as the guy who drove up to collect it in the BB.
