Chevrolet Bolt reveal at 2016 CES

I wonder how Tesla's long-promised entry level EV will compare. Tesla has sold entirely to the luxury market to date, a brilliant strategy to get higher cash flow to go with high development costs. It remains to be seen if it can dominate in the sub $40K space.

The bolt is interesting. I wonder how much (*cough* badly *cough*) it will kill the BMW i3 market.

CES is turning into a car show.

Or cars are turning into electronics.

We might have a booth at CES next year as well.

Now that the Bolt, which is a Malibu with an LG (the company in S. Korea that makes your flat screen) drivetrain made by Daewoo, is up and running, I am confused by the 'hybrid' moniker.

Even Wiki calls it a Hybrid, but it's listed as a plug-in EV. No mention of an ICE at all.

How is it a Hybrid if it's all electric?

Is it because of the regenerative braking?

It's sad to see the U.S. taxpayers are still subsidizing these cars in the amount of $7500
for each car! These cars along with all other cars need to stand on their own merits, incl.
the Tesla, and we'd then know the demand when the rebates are gone!

    Timely thread bump, it seems!

The Bolt normally can go 259 miles on a charge, but that has been limited by GM’s guidance to avoid a fire. The automaker told Bolt owners to limit the charge to 90%, plug in more frequently and avoid depleting the battery to below about 70 miles of remaining range. They’re also advised to park their vehicles outside immediately after charging and not leave them charging indoors overnight.

The company will be telling Bolt owners who are concerned about parking in public places that it recommends keeping 50 feet from other cars in garages and lots, spokesman Dan Flores said.
