Hello friend, here are some pics of when I changed my engine in my 348. 1-Jack the car up and place on chassis stands. 2-Remove tray under front of engine. 3-Drain oil tank-22mm socket/spanner. 4-Drain engine-12mm hex socket/allen key. 5-Fit drain plugs and covers and lower car to the ground. 6-Remove air box to access engine oil filter. 7-Remove and replace engine oil filter. 8-Refit airbox and clean up oil spilt from old oil filter. 9-Fill engine oil with approx 10 litres of engine. 10-Start engine, run for a minute to check for leaks. 11-Turn off engine and check engine oil level. 12-Top up engine oil if needed. Happy wrenching my friend. Imagine friend!, It's nothing to apologize! the difference between our small towns is that you live in the USA! BRAZIL exists only here in an authorized workshop and is 3200 km from where I live! and even if it were on my side was no advantage buy anything there! when I need something, buy the RICAMBI AMERICA even paying for air freight and 60% of tax my country tax on the purchase price even so, many of these pieces come here in half the price charged by Ferris of Brazil! amazing is not it?! therefore, believe that somehow you live in paradise! Hey PAP, you think you waited long enough on that oil change? The oil looks pretty black to me!! Look!! I'm posting PAP style!!
Lol, well that was a few years ago now. Back in mid 2007. Engine oil had only done around 4000 km when I changed it. But I havent changed it since then and car has around another 3000 km on that Mobil 1 oil. I will change the oil again when I pull the engine for the major service..............whenever that may be. And thanks for posting like me. I appreciate it.
Excellent instructions PAP. To the OP - there is nothing like the 348 Brotherhood, anytime you have a question or an issue, be sure to come post it here and several people will come to your aid. Welcome to the Brotherhood, by the way.
Best oil change thread I found. A couple of questions: 1. What are the torque specs on the 22mm bolt, the 12mm drain and, out of curiosity, the gear box drain plug too? 2. Do you check the oil level with the car running or off? I have seen both. I think the service manual says off and I think that is what you did. Just clarifying. 3. What is the easiest and least risky way to remove the air box?
1) Not sure, but I just tighten it up snug, not gorilla tight, just snug for both 2) I have read on here it works both ways, but I kill the engine then check immediately after (I think it says within 20 seconds of turning the engine off). 3) There is no easiest or least risky, there's only one way - four 10mm nuts (one on each corner), unfasten a few clamps/hoses, and off it goes.
