I appreciate that it’s quite a subjective topic but I have a first world dilemma on my hands. I currently have a 488 Pista and both a Porsche 992 GT3 and an 812 GTS on order for delivery next year. My dilemma - I only have space (wife on has a tolerance) for two ‘weekend’ cars.

Has anyone ran both a Pista and GTS side by side? If so thoughts? Do they compliment one another or is there little added value having both.

My gut tells me that the GT3 and Pista carry more overlap than either would with the GTS.

    Appreciate your input.

    GTS for sure.
The question, as I see it, do you prefer the Pista over a GT3? Is the GT3 a manual? It would be nice to have a Ferrari V12 and a track-sharpened 992 GT3 Touring in manual.
You however realize that you’ll get every response possible though. ;)

I have a 812 and a Pista. They are very different and both spectacular cars. I have a GT3 on order and am not getting rid of either car. One goes into storage at the dealer when not using it.

812GTS, Pista and 992GT3 Manual is the perfect three car combo.

@Il-Copilota has both (and some Porsche as well) so I'd assume he's the right person to answer.

I have as you can see in the pic. I also have a touring inbound. If any of them would be going, it would be the GT3. Not even something I'd spend a second on.

The GTS is very soft and a GT, and nothing like a Pista. It is also very different from an 812 Superfast. They are as different as can be. The GT3 is similar to a Pista, just not quite as exiting. I ordered the touring because I wanted a road car with a manual. But like I said, if I were to replace one, the GT3 would be out faster than yesterdays dirty socks.

A Pista and GT3 would be pointless and nothing about the GT3 could replace the Pista.

As for differences between the 812 GTS and a Pista? They are from different planets. They compliment each other because they are polar opposites.

I have an 812SF and a GTS inbound next year. I’d be very interested to hear your take on the differences between the two. Maybe I should keep my SF alongside the GTS?
(Maybe you could start a new thread so as not to hijack this one, or maybe a quick post will slide in okay. :))
    Thanks!

Not sure why the wife dictates the number of cars. What difference does it make to her? I will never understand that kind of stuff. What is she trying to accomplish? If the money is there, ask her what difference it makes. Nothing changes for her. Just because she does not understand your interests does that not mean that she can dictate how many cars you have.
Macho up a bit my friend, you have rights too. #Iwillnotbedemasculated

I have never “asked” my wife about cars I purchase. It’s more like she says, “what are you buying now?” (When overhearing me discussing a potential car with my son(s). :) Though sometimes I have asked her opinion on colors, but if it differs from what I wanted to hear I immediately ignore it. :D
    But everyone’s situation is different.

My wife isn’t involved whatsoever in my cars. She supports my addiction by looking the other way. She rides in my cars exactly one time, and then never again. They just do not hold any appeal to her whatsoever. It’s unfortunate that she doesn’t share my same passion, but at least she doesn’t stand in the way.

    Ah what a difference :)

My wife is in charge of design of our cars when it comes to colors (I seem to be colorblind, but I do prefer tdf Blue for some odd reason, so as long as she plays that tune it is okay in my book o_O ) - and then it ends. She refuses to drive any car these days - not sure why though.... However she completely loves to be "taxied" where ever she likes to go.... And I am not the one to say no to that :D So in the end I choose the car model, engine and all tech stuff - she's in charge of design... Seems to work pretty well here

I definitely think that the Pista is perfectly complemented by either a 812 SF or 812 GTS. Of course, I am biased. The two cars are completely different and each provides a unique driving experience.

My wife and I share our car hobby. 100%. It's far more enjoyable and avoids conflict. Make the car hobby into something she is interested in.....expand your hobby to include traveling to great places that are hosting car events. (Monterey for car week), or Italy...etc. Just be creative. There are so many facets to the car hobby. Fashion, people, celebrity, history, racing, and of course driving. She will certainly find her own interests. Heck, The Quail event in Monterey alone will get any car disinterested lady to discover the car passion....that event was epic.

As to the original question. We had a Pista and a GT3 RS and Touring. Sold the Pista. Came down to the lack of a manual transmission and ultimate usability. I had to make rules for myself and the first one is that the car has to be truly LE and a manual transmission. Otherwise, no go. The Pista was SO fast it was almost useless. The Touring is more fun going legal speeds or just puttering around. The GTS and Touring would be a great combo. Porsches also have a huge global fan base with more diverse interests vs Ferraris.

If “only” two cars allowed then you cannot go wrong with either 812GTS and Pista, or 812GTS and Porsche GT3 MANUAL—not PDK.
Ideally, it would be all three of course.

I’m morphing my collection to a 4-car garage, hopefully completed next summer:
812 GTS—classic Ferrari V12 special occasion car. (On order)
458 Speciale—epic Ferrari V8, perhaps the greatest ever to be made. (Already own)
991.2 GT3/manual—super fun at any speed, classic manual Porsche. (Already own)
PortofinoM—daily Ferrari GT car, comfortable, elegant, yet still super fast. (On order)
ohhh......and the Ford F-150 King Ranch for hauling firewood. :)

I think this is a very complementary and comprehensive garage for a car nut. Only things missing, IMO, are vintage collector-car exotic, American sports car (C8 Z06), and a classic muscle car.

Two completely different cars. I prefer the V12 over any V8 but having said that I will be selling my 812GTS and keeping my Pista Spider.

On another note, last month we did a Ferrari rally from Lake Tahoe to Carmel and the Pista, of which there were many, ran away from the 812 GTS, also of which there were many. The 812 GTS drivers all gave up on the mountain twistys and let all the F8/Pista/SF90s past. Talking to an 812 GTS / Challenge driver (who runs me off the track at Challenge events) flat out gave up and said he couldn't keep up with his GTS with my Pista.

Tough dilemma, all great complimenting cars - I have both a Pista and GTS don't plan on selling either right now.. . also have a 991 Speedster for those manual days. I think if a GT3 was coming into the mix it might overtake the Speedster, not the Pista - that is a different animal all together. Probably my favourite "driving" Ferrari of all time (even over my Speciale.. yes I said that) and the GTS is easily my favourite cruising Ferrari of all time! Yes lots of great of greats here.. you picked the creme of the crop for me.

Can you possibly get a GT3 touring as the DD and convince the wife the Pista and GTS are the weekend ones while the GT3 touring is DD one.:D

I have a 991.2 GT3 touring, a 458 and an F12. Ranked ordered by pride of ownership: F12, 458, GT3. Rank ordered by thrill of driving: GT3, 458, F12. I suggest you let your wife decide.

I have an 812 SF with an F8 spider on the way. I ordered it because it’s an excellent compliment to my 812. Of course the F8 isn’t completely a pista, but it is quite close. As far as the Porsche goes, I can’t compare against it as I’m just not a fan of the marque. My manual cars are a GT350 and an old M3 for when I want that ‘analog’ driving experience.

That said, I think you should keep the 812 GTS as it’s going to be an incredibly special car for sure. Last of the NA V12s and it’s a spider. The GT3 and Pista will probably come down to personal opinion. I’d pick the pista personally, especially if it was my own spec.

You simply can't ignore physics on twisty roads. The 812GTS has an additional 350Kg of heft over a Pista Coupe. The lighter 812SF Coupe would be a much closer match to a Pista Spyder where the weights are much closer.
