OE Rear lexan for 348/355. Were some cars equipped with this option from the factory? Built by Sigla? Ferrari Cavallino on it? Hardcoated for scratch resistance? Do they frost up? I assume no delamination?

Would appreciate feedback from those who have it.

Here’s a whole video dedicated to the most underrated aspect of the 348/355 :).

The challenge cars had the lexan rear window
No problem on mine although it is partially cracked and I was looking for replacement.

If you have to replace your OEM rear window due to delamination or cracks, you can go back with OEM glass ~$4k (and it most likely will delaminate again in the future) or go Lexan $2k.

The only downsides I can see to Lexan are 1. Not stock/OEM to regular 355’s and 2. easier to scratch?

    Does that sum it up?

Perhaps not standard for U.S 355’s , but might be a different case with euro spec cars. @kryten2001 from Australia says his rear window is lexan.

Fwiw, I used to own one of the factory 348 Challenge cars (this specific car, https://petrolicious.com/articles/why-have-we-been-ignoring-the-ferrari-348-challenge). It came with an oem glass rear window, that had begun to delaminate. Not saying they were all this way, but this one data point definitely didn't have a lexan/perspex rear window.

If his rear window is factory it will not be lexan. My 1995 is stamped Siglia and while its not tempered glass like the side windows it is a laminated construction.

does anyone know the possible weight savings of the lexan vs glass? Does anyone have them in stock?

Same thickness, roughly 1/6 the weight of glass.

Cool but wondering how heavy the stock is. If it's 9 pounds is 7 pounds worth saving for $1500 mod?

Off the top of my head, it was a 5 lbs savings. Only worth it if your delamination issue was bad and you just want to sort it. Outside of that, not worth the hassle or the price.

    Thanks for the input.

I was considering it since I had the back panels out and I heard you have to remove the glass from the inside out. Trying to get as much as I can done with that area of the car that I would eventually want done now while it's disassembled so I don't need to do it again. I had the back glass tinted but wasn't happy with the job since the corner is so tight. The tinting guy said its best to remove the glass to yet it done perfectly.

Thanks for saving me the money.
