So ... did it ever sell?
Earlier this year I had a long conversation with Dr.Thomas Bscher (ex-banker and ex-Bugatti CEO, Maserati race car enthusiast and racer: 450S, 300S, 250F, Birdcage), who raced his Barchetta when Maserati had introduced the race series. He clearly stated that the Barchetta was a good car - but not a very good race car when compared with other period competitors. Its motor was a more road car- rather than a race engine. Bscher won almost everything in the Barchetta race serie.
Bscher apart of his CEO career is certainly a very competent driver he was right up there at Le Mans in a McLaren FI in the late 90's for example. Of course the Barchetta was never meant to race against anything other than its twins bit I can confirm having ridden with a very good driver in the chassis I represent that it handles brilliantly, like a go kart. It felt more agile than the 333SP I test drove for Cavallino magazine (22years ago!) which is saying a lot and rightly so as it is narrower and lighter but still that says a lot. Bob: not yet sold, talking with prospects from both sides of the pond.

Kind of weird considering it was labelled a Maserati, used a Maserati engine though it's the same basic layout as the Guara. I wonder if they were built at the DeTomaso factory?
