Hello, I’ve had an erratic fuel gauge for a few weeks now. I’ve replaced the left Fuel pump because it was cracked. The symptoms did not appear initially but did start over time. Any ideas? Fuel sender? Improper installation?

Hmmm.....worked for a while and now issues? I wouldn't think installation but I'd pull it out, inspect and reinstall. easy enough to do. My guess is the sending unit.

The pivot on the fuel level sender is obscenely fragile and can break with the slightest mishandling.

That plus I know from experience that the stepper motors in the gauge clusters like to go poo also.

No stepper motors. Perhaps he meant analog to digital converters?

Did you do any wiring checks?

There is an electronic earth on the engine block (21T) for the sender.

Make sure it's not loose or corroded.

Sender is in the bottom left hand corner. The earth wire is black/purple (NZ)

There was a permanent link to the F360 Spider wiring diagrams somewhere on the forum. Can't find it at the moment.

It is a derivative of the NMB PM25-048, which is in fact, a stepper motor. The needles don't move by Italian magic ;)

This entire time I have been thinking we were talking about the oil pressure gauge. It seems to be the ones that most people have problems with, including me. I guess I either need to drink less or start driving my car more.

To be honest, when I owned my 360, my fuel gauge has always been kinda dumb. Even with changing the sending units and all. I had a habit of just filling up every 250KM (150 Miles) anyways.

I’m going to take a look at it today, but I believe it is that ground wire in the back. Every time I go up the driveway and into the garage that’s when I get the most erotic indication.

No it does not do that, it looses all the lines. It also goes to full when it’s half. Also, it shows quarter tank when it’s full. It’s very strange

Yes ERATIC Jaja! Tried those lines you spoke about but they look good, i tugged on them and the gauge didn’t budge. I don’t know what it is.

It was worth a try. Most likely it will be a sender failure. The sender seems to be part of the pump unlike earlier Ferrari models. I'd imagine you'd have to change the pump (?).

There seems to be only one connector on the pump/sender assembly. On those with separate connectors, I would have recommended removing the sender plug and fitting a fixed resistance to simulate a specific fuel level. This would have confirmed if the wiring and gauge was ok.

At least the pump/sender assemblies don't have crazy prices
