Hi Guys After going with stock sizes on my stock 458 wheels for new tires last year I decided to go with a new set of wheels and different tire sizes and here are the results. So last week I just installed a set of ADV.1 Rims on my 458 that are 9x20 Front Offset 44 and 11 x 20 offset 50 rear and the shop recommended this slightly more aggressive setup. 255/30/20 and 305/30/20 rears. So far so good with no issues at all. (only 100 miles) It looks like the fronts are about 4.5% larger than the rears with this setup compared to 6% larger rear with the stock set up so maybe the TC Side Slip Etc has a couple of percentile perimeter that it works within. Any thoughts folks. I would love to hear some feedback on this setup.
Your size estimate is way off. Those tyres are much smaller in diameter than stock, not larger. It will not look good as it opens up the wheel gaps even more. The size you want is 255/35R20 and 305/35R20. I'm guessing that the shop that did those wheels aren't used to Ferraris. Not sure I understand the ET choice. Hi Joff, just curious: what was your goal with the new setup? What in the car handling did you want to cure? Thanks.
The car is lowered and the gap is only one and a half fingers in the wheel well. It looks really good and I dont like the big fat sidewall on the rears. The offset puts the wheels out 8mm further on the front and 14mm further on the rear. Fairly conservative but looks good. I'll take some pics and post.
I'm running the tire size recommended by Il Co-Pilota (255/35R20 and 305/35R20). No TC issues, and have the same % difference between front and rear as yours with 30 aspects
Ah. That makes more sense. Yes, your wheel specs are basically Speciale numbers aside from et50 vs 48 in the rear. Sounds like that thing is flying low. Sent from my SM-G930F using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Ah, OK now I see. So my very personal opinion is that if you do that for the looks (which I understand!) then you are the only judge: if you like it more, then well done! I would agree with Il Co-Pilota in that smaller tires (i.e. smaller wheels) will open up more free space in the wheel arches, which I would not personally like, but again it's you to judge. Also I feel to point out that by reducing the outer diameter you will also reduce ground clearance, which is usually the unwanted side effect that you get when you lower the car and reduce the wheels gap, in this case feels to me a bit like the worst of both worlds... the car will scratch like lowered (which it is), but will look like raised. Same for comfort: you will get the same harsh ride that you would with 21" rims, without the looks that the majority likes more (I mean: in general car enthusiasts like the look of bigger rims and thinner tires more), so again sound like the worst combination. Not to mention possible traction/stability controls issues, that you say didn't show, so I would guess you are within tolerance. Just again, of course, my personal opinion.
