The Eagle's front "airfoil" sure looks tacky. You'd think that Gurney's brain trust could have come up with something better. Maybe a sign that the F1 team was nearing its termination.
On this day back in 1984, the battle was between Niki Lauda and Alain Prost. The scene, the Portuguese GP. Prost won the race, Niki Lauda came in 2nd and took the worldchampionship title with the slightest margin of half a point. HALF A POINT ! That was my first-ever race at any level. I got my program autographed by Niki Lauda, but the ink completely wore off! I guess I should have put the program in a secure place! One of the cars in the Vintage race was an immaculate Mercedes 300SL gullwing. I suppose the car was much less valuable in '75 than it is today. There was also a Lago-Talbot GP car and a couple of Corvette-powered Lister "knobblies".
