The Purosangue Thread

At this point I think we have to conclude that the final design is going to substantially look like this mule.

 

I agree. Even though this (hopefully!) wont turn into a huge volume vehicle for them, they have to deliver a uniquely “Ferrari” design. And they have the team to do it. Just to refit an existing car… I actually think thats the most unbelievable thing. They must have ways of testing the design in more secure places. I am taking a guess, these mules are likely testing various mechanical and maybe some interior systems.

Kinda has that classic induction growl we’ve heard from the V12... but something sounds a bit different. Doesn’t sound like the flat plane TTV8 either.

 

Definitely turbocharged. Probably a V6.

 

I am afraid that you are correct, and we may all be in for a huge disappointment. If these thing looks like a Macan with a Roma front and rear it won't matter what kind of engine they put in it. V12, turbo 8/6 whatever.

I am unfortunately progressively losing hope and confidence that they have successfully pulled this off, and this thing won't just be a marketing segment exercise.

 

This is still a Levante skin. Ferrari is playing this very close to the vest. I believe they will pull it off.

The Purosangue is lower, and notice how the central big front air intake is very low too, compared to the Levante.

 

It’s an SUV. Call it an FUV if you want but it’s an SUV. Ferrari can’t get too cute with the styling … because it’s an SUV and they will lose the SUV audience if they do. They are building this to get in on the action … it is meant to compete against Urus, Cullinan, Bentayga, etc. Thus it has to look something like an SUV and it has to have four doors and seat five and have storage and be good in snow, etc. How could you possibly expect them to do this without it looking like an SUV? they’re not building this car to appeal to you! But all those folks buying those other brands … at least some would buy Ferrari if there was a suitable option, but obviously the FF and Lusso were not SUV-ish enough. Thus it’s going to be an SUV and will take styling cues from Roma and why is that so bad? Roma is beautiful! Seems like so many are pre-disposed to hate that Ferrari is making such a thing that I can’t imagine how any styling is going to change minds either way.

I get your point however it will actually be a crossover. Car platform with raised ride height. It will be interesting to see what they do with the doors. They’re really walking a tightrope.

 

I just don’t think a crossover gets the job done though. Someone spending that kind of money wants the same utility as the big boys I mentioned. You are likely right, but does a crossover appeal to the audience I think they want to appeal to? Other than two extra doors (a big deal of course) would a crossover be any more useful than a Lusso? None of the competitors (other than Porsche) do a crossover … not sure why Ferrari would.

Regardless that’s what it is. Ferrari have said it won’t be known for climbing rocks. In reality the Lambo is a crossover as well even though it’s based on an SUV. They’ve seemingly tuned it specifically for rode use. IIRC There are warnings in the manual about not taking it off toad etc. No one is really going to try to do SUV activities in it other than people and grocery carrying. People know the FUV and the Lambo Ureter aren’t trucks. I wish they wouldn’t however the Elkans want to squeeze every penny out of Enzo and Luca’s work to finance the rest of the entire Stelantis fiat nonsense.

 

I asked one of the insiders that has seen it, if it was a SUV or Cross over and they said SUV

Why do I keep having Porsche Cayenne first generation feels when reading through this post...!?
If anything we don't need to purschase the Puro, but it will enable Ferrari to keep on building V12's for as long as possible.

 

I would certainly hope so. My wife’s ‘13 Cayenne GTS was one of the best vehicles I have ever owned. She put 100k miles on it and didn’t want to get rid of it & declined several new vehicles when I thought it was getting long in the tooth.

I would love to have a Ferrari SUV that is easy to drive, fun when it lets its hair down and bullet proof like that car was.

On a French facebook group I am a part of, somebody said exactly the same thing about the fact that by now this had to be very close to the real body of the car. To which another french guy responded something along the lines of "vous nous croyez vraiment assez cons pour rebadger un Levante" which translates into "you think we are that stupid to simply rebadge a Levante". And it turns out that this french guy is actually part of the design team of the Purosangue. So I rest my case: the Purosangue will be very different from the mule, beside probably the wheelbase.

 

Are you confirming you have seen it ? anyway...Time will tell. A cross over would fall too short personally how ever as SUV that can change modes from a more extreme performance to offroad/snow mode would be a winner. It will be more classic in look alot of design language from the Roma is my understanding but again time will tell. all the best

 

I would have preferred they kept the hidden coach door idea, but I still can't wait for the introduction.

 

My point with regard to SUV or crossover has nothing to do with off-roading. Few would ever use an Urus, Bentayga or Cullinan off road. Hell, most Range Rovers never see any terrain more challenging than a cobblestone driveway.

I just mean is has to be big like those vehicles so it can carry five comfortably along with lots of stuff. Or at least close. If Ferrari wishes to sell the same number as those competitors and steal business from them, then it can’t be a smaller crossover … it has to at minimum be equal in size to a Cayenne, which the Levante pretty much is. And it can’t be something with trick or hidden rear doors and no boot space. Otherwise it will just be a new and slightly taller Lusso, which I just don’t see the point of.

A better looking, better performing Urus is the sweet spot, but again (and maybe my definition differs from some) the Urus is an SUV not a crossover.
