It’s a 2010 California it’s not a Pista, I’m not a trust fund baby or some arrogant jerk I work like a dog to have been able to buy the damn car without regret. I’m not double parked, I don’t rev the engine driving past crowds, i let kids take pictures with it and even sit in it, it’s parked in front of a busy restaurant.

Why spit on my car? Why throw things at it?

I just got it a couple weeks ago, I’ve wanted a Ferrari since i was a dumb kid lusting over a 360 and i didnt get the 360 or any other F car that I truly wanted because they were less “practical” and I wanted to avoid all the attention. First time taking it downtown and multiple people spit on it at two different places and someone must have thrown a rock or bottle or something because there is a quarter sized indentation/chip on the passenger door when it sure wasn’t there when I took it out of the garage. No way in hell that happened naturally from driving, not where it is and what it looks like.

Why? It’s just a car, the G wagon parked next to it is worth more if it’s all about jealousy, nobody messed with the G wagon.

Sorry just venting, all the more reason why detroit is so disgusting…..never again. I wish I had caught at least one them and bounced their head on the concrete, that would have almost made it worth it….

Because people have zero class or ability to carry themselves in society, as demonstrated on a daily basis.

Although incidents like these are probably more prone in areas where Ferrari’s are less common, like Detroit.

Much less likely in South Florida or LA where a Pista may be the cheapest car parked on the block.

I know and you’re right, I shouldn’t expect anything different. It’s just so silly and frustrating, tonight honestly reduced my faith in my fellow man. If I saw someone with a nice car I would take a glance, say “nice car” in my head and keep walking. What level of person is such a departure that they spit on the car and throw something at it? My first time actually taking it somewhere besides my business or just out for a cruise and this is what happened…

It's where you live and/or take your cars to.

My 2016 California T is my 3rd Ferrari, I've owned & driven my Ferraris as often was I can for the last 8 years & I've had nothing but thumbs up, admirers & very friendly questions & conversations.

I too give rides & Ferrari toys to kids and they all appreciate it.

One time I drove my car through a bad part of town on my way to my friends house and a guy tried to hit me head on.

    It's jealousy.

There was a yellow 355 I drove quite a bit in South Florida. I love fly yellow but it attracts strong reactions; that one elicited three very different ones.

I was checking the tire pressures at a gas station on US1 in Ft Lauderdale and a black girl vacuuming her Honda became irate seeing it, making lots of derogatory comments about the car and wealth, I did not respond, finished what I had to do and calmly drove off.
Then on the Turnpike at another gas station a quite beautiful young blonde, secretary type, stood against the building and just kept staring at me in a beguiling way literally beckoning me to invite her to join me, she thought she could see her ticket to escape her dreary life. Too eager gold digger type, a dime a dozen in SFlo so I did not respond.
Then I had to pick up some documents at the big Mercedes dealership near FLL and as I arrived two salesmen almost ran out the door to greet me saying "Yessir we can take that in trade!" I said hey it's not mine, I'm just a car salesman and their eagerness instantly collapsed;-)

Certainly driving one in bad neighborhoods or poor areas/cities is not a good idea and best avoided. It is a matter of tact basically, not just common sense and avoiding danger but not putting a sign of wealth under the nose of people not at all accustomed to see it.

I also just got my 1st Ferrari, a 2016 F12. So far I have not had anything happen as you have, but I will say this. When I was younger, I aspired to succeed and one day be able to own a car like this. Envy is one of the 7 deadly sins. Unfortunately, today it is used as a weapon to divide.

there are downsides to owning these cars.....and exposing the jealousy of your fellow man is one of them.
i have had all of these things happen to me too.
you just need to keep moving on and ignore it - getting sucked into an altercation with any of these low lifes is a recipe for disaster.
just behave smart and you will minimize the encounters, and minimize the effects if you do cross one.

Detroit is the epicenter of American carmaking. If you're driving around Detroit in a foreign car, I imagine you're a target for all sorts of condemnation.

Like it or not, driving a Ferrari or other exotic is perceived by the masses as a conspicuous display of opulence and wealth, in a time when economic inequality is in the spotlight. Wealthy people are targets today. The spitting and hurling of objects may simply be a vitriolic response to what they perceive as flaunting your wealth. Especially in a city that is one of the poorest in the nation.

It doesn't matter if it's a California or a Pista. The public doesn't know the difference. People think you have to be filthy rich to afford any Ferrari.

Which city did this occur is?

Regardless it pissed me off for you and looks like others as well. I hope you find some comfort in that

I'm a Gen X'er. When I someone with nicer things than me, I thought "what do I have to do to get that". Not "why does that guy have that.

Downtown Detroit, unfortunately that is where i live….well I live in metro detroit and went downtown with friends. I’m 37 you don’t really see a lot of young people in detroit so I’m not going to blame it on that but I definitely agree with you overall, that and the younger crowd in detroit are all like deer in headlights terrified they are in Detroit and not in their little safe spaces.

But here’s the thing, I’m sitting here blaming it on detroit like it was some hood rats doing it…it wasn’t, i just realized that. This happened in areas where the loser ****** bag hipsters hang out, trendy restaurants and bars. I was hopping around with some friends and the one place I parked it which I would say was seedy…..nobody messed with it.

I thank everyone for dealing with my venting, just something so needlessly stupid.

Well if it never happened to you it must never have happened to others?

Telling someone they live in the wrong area? WTF?! People should be able to live anywhere and not be harassed, right?

Your comments further clarify why this kind of stuff happens to people like the OP.

I also can not encourage enough installing a 2 channel dash cam. Blackvue is the best one out there.

My first roll in my 328 on the interstate. Looked over at the the car beside me. The guy in it’s passenger seat was flipping me a bird.

These cars evoke strange emotions lol.

I live on long island, lots of wealth and nice cars, but ferraris, especially red, definitely do get the occasional negative reaction. My bright yellow 993 has been 100% positive feedback, constant thumbs ups. Red Ferrari has been mostly positive, lots of people wanting to talk at gas stations, but have the occasional guy swearing or once, guy in pickup truck spitting at me when I passed low speed in other direction. My titanio 575 is under the radar, most people probably don’t even recognize it is a Ferrari.

Thank you, by dash cam you mean something continuously rolling to record what is happening in the front and rear surveillance? Something you hard wired in?

That's why my current Ferrari is really a lightly used trackcar. I can get "go fast in it" out of my system, exercise a cool car other track guys appreciate. Sometimes I drive to the track and sometimes I trailer it. It gets some dings...it's only paint.

I have never had a problem with my Ferraris over the 30+ years of owning them but, I have never left them parked in parking lots or unattended for long periods either. You have to look at these cars in a different manner than anything else, they are not grocery store cars in my mind they cannot be considered appliances unfortunately.

Sorry that happened to you, it can be infuriating. I think the culture in different places can have lead to certain reactions. Oddly enough, Austin is the only place I've been where I got a negative reaction and someone flipped the bird when I was driving and minding my own business. Baton Rouge, normal stuff like people speeding up to take pictures. Of all places, the small town of Madisonville, Kentucky (pop. 19k) where I am at for the moment, has initiated the most thumbs up I've ever gotten in the car. Young, old, variety of cars, and a lot of encouragement to make some noise even though I try to keep a low profile.

Regardless, even though I'm your age, I try to minimize driving during peak hours, and avoid taking it to areas crowded with young people at night.

Without getting into specifics that may trigger a P&R discussion; based on other similar comments I've read on the forum, and the varying reactions I've had in different cities, I'm starting to feel like the dominating politics of the city has a lot to do with how likely you are to have certain reactions. So I tend to adjust my driving times based on location (Mods please delete if this crosses the line into P&R)

Yes,. It records when driving and records until the external battery runs out (suggest using an external battery) when parked.

A must have as you are a target for insurance scams, or the actions of bad people as you posted. It's unfortunate the world has come to this, but I advise being prepared for this new world.

No. Hardwired. Records on to SD card. I have mine set up so when I get home it connects to my LAN and downloads to my 2 TB hardrive on my PC (a dedicated $160 dollar micro PC I bought on Amazon that is on 24/7). I use a 7 dollar program called Blackvue Downloader for this.

I do this because the quality micro SD cards are expensive and you don't get that many hours of saved footage. You can't just use standard use cards as they don't last. It has to be endurance cards.

On my PC I get months of saved footage for 3 cars in case I need tomgo back to review.

A dashcam isn't going to help in preventing any of this behavior. All it's going to do is increase your fun by letting you actually watch your car being disrespected. I'd rather not see it. A dashcam's primary benefits are to provide video support for an insurance claim and to aid law enforcement in determining fault in the event of an accident.
