Probably one of the more high mileage examples, but I brought home an 85 QV Black on Tan this weekend. 100k miles on the car. Let my father drive it back from ohio. Car started leaking, sunroof failed to close. Trailed it back to Missouri and dropped it off at my buddies since he has a lift. Leak was a failed clamp. Expected the sunroof to be frayed wiring which I still need to repair, but was actually just the switch being dirty. Yes, I know the sunroofs like to fail. This one opens and closes with ease unlike the windows. Not sure how much will get done for a bit due to winter coming on. I need to get it past inspection. Current list of to do's are: Pull the interior and thoroughly clean it. PO moved some of the buttons around (wiring) and will put it back to stock. Remove the excess ferrari emblems. Replace the tires. Look at the warning panel next to the shift as it seems to act up. Look at why the fuel pump turns on when the car is on, but not running. Adjust the shifter. It works, but is sloppy. Rebuild the steering rack. Figure out what is binding with the clutch pedal. You can feel it and sometimes hear it. Fix the side mirrors so they move up and down. Currently up and down cause mirrors to move left/right. Clean/grease the windows. Find an original steering wheel. This has a wood rim. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hah, similar story with our 84 Mondy qv vert. Drove from OR to TX. Broke down about 200 miles from home. Had to trailer home. Somehow i evidently had unreasonable expectations for a high price, supposed high quality, always garaged and serviced, and 39k mile car. Oh well, luckily we have the minivan that has 100k miles, never serviced except oil changes, and which out-accelerates and in general out performs the F. Will need it to run for car parts, huh. At some point, the "snoot factor" faces reality.
Etoile which was in some way related to Gotti? I have tried researching, but they have a confusing history. I am going to look at getting them refinished, but one shows a slight bend. Also want to replace the center caps. Maybe something without the prancing horse. I towed the trailer the whole way. Didn't trust this thing at all. My folks live in Indianapolis so I let my father drive it from ohio to there. Figured if it had issues I would just trailer it. Didn't start having problems til he made it in the driveway.
Nice Mondial! In general old high milage Ferraris (If not one from this forum) are most reliable Else they could not get that far, but at some point it needs TLC I'm afraid you cannot adjust the shifter. either the silent blocks (there are 2) are worn out, which is often the case, or the shifter itself is worn out. Sorry to hear about your challenges, but welcome to the brotherhood. Mondial Coupes are great! This is the one from BaT? If so, I'd be a bit frustrated as well given how it was presented by the seller... 2cam
No this is the one from hemmings. https://www.hemmings.com/auction/1985-ferrari-mondial?utm_medium=Promoted%20Listing&utm_source=Classifieds&utm_campaign=1985-ferrari-mondial Paint is very nice, rust is only surface on the under carriage in places, engine runs strong, all in all happy with it. Its a 37 year old Italian made car with 100k. Its got needs.
My apologies - I was actually referring to Stasha's car... I like your attitude. That's essentially the way I view my car as well. It's a 32 year old Italian car - it's going to have needs. 2cam
Thanks. Been waiting 2 weeks fo ferrari parts exchange to ship the silent blocks to rebuild the shifter. Need to find a parts list to rebuild the steering rack. Also would like to find a list of hose sizes. Need to replace everything in the engine bay.
Congratulations! Welcome to the Mondial World. I too have an 85 coupe. Mine's red but I really think the black is classiest. If motor runs strong, that is the key thing. Electronics are the biggest niggles and aggravations for the most part. If you've been reading posts here, you'll know that window speed is a product of the 36 year old grease hardening around the gears and cable. Need to take the door card off and clean thoroughly. I have an old post with pics that walks through the process. You are lucky the roof works...same problem. But I think you have your priorities straight. Happy driving. You'll love it.
