Hey folks, I picked up a '13 458 spider about a month ago and love it. Problem is that the warranty is going to be over in about a month so I was wondering if the extended warranty was worth getting. Dealer quoted me about 6k for 1 year and 11k for 2 years. I've heard that the 458 is generally a reliable car so not sure if I should bother with the warranty. What do you all think?

I find it's worth getting. I did the 2 year on my 2012 458 last year. Have had no issues, but I'm willing to pay for certainty and no worries. It also positions you to continue warranty as the car gets older.
While I've had no issues with the 458, my F430 had an issue come up in the 3rd year after factory warranty expired. Having that one issue covered paid for the three years of extended warranty.

I think it's worth getting for a year since you just got it and haven't yet time to work out any issues and don't really know its condition until you drive it some over the course of that first year. You'll be in a better position to assess risk for the second year.

I had my 13 Spider for 6 months before warranty expires this Jan. I elected to not get the warranty. No problems so far! Knock on wood. Car has been rock solid. It all depends if you can sleep at night without the warranty. I sleep very well at night except for the 4 young kids I have at home:).

Great advice in my opinion. Normally for a 458 you know well I'd say it's not worth it, but in this instance I'd definitely go for the first year.

You paid for 2 years with no issue, that means it's not worth.
458 is much more reliable than 430. Just make sure you drive it every day, or at least 3 times a week, and drive below 3k rpm before reaching the right temperature, should be no problem.

I bought the 2 year warranty with my 2012 458 spider. My AC just went out so let's see how much this repair ( waranty covered ) will be. I think it's also gonna be another plus when I sell the car. I'm sure mine will sell faster with a waranty then without. Ps. I sleep real well at night. :)

It's health insurance for your car... do you get health insurance for yourself because you are always healthy... just sayin'.. ;-)

If your car is still under warranty, you should be paying
    $6,300 for 1 year
    $9,900 for 2 years

Which would be an extension of the org 3 year warranty, with the same coverage!

The New Power Warranty would run you $ 4,500 per year on a year to year basis, with a slightly reduced coverage package. Plus, if your car is out of warranty, you may have to pay for the New Power Warranty inspection..

It is extremely reliable , daily driver even!

You are going to love it.

The consensus is always different on this subject. I had a year left of factory warranty on my 430. I didn't get an extended warranty. That was 5.5 years since it expired.

My GF just bought a one owner 2012 458 Italia with 1200 miles. We didn't get the warranty on that one either.

Mine runs out on my 2014 458 this upcoming October. Originally I was planning on extending the warranty for another two years. Now I'm not so sure. Invariably, extended warranties are profit gravy for car manufacturers.

I did not extend the warranty on my '13 458. I would be surprised if it would need more than $ 6,300 of warranty work in the coming year.

Only issue I have had with my 458 in over three years of ownership is a flat tire on the highway after warranty expired. I contacted Ferrari roadside assistance who told me the cost of a tow truck was not covered as my warranty had expired. They arranged a flatbed tow that costs me about $200. As it was a Friday night and the dealer was closed, the tow truck company wanted to impound my car in their lot, and take it to the dealer the next day. I told them to forget it and had it towed to my garage. The next day I called tirebutler, who ordered the replacement tire for me and came to my home to replace it.

I am sure the tire puncture would not have been covered, so the only cost to me in not getting the extended warranty was $200. If I had the dealer replace the tire I am sure it would cost more than the $600 I was charged by tirebutler mobile service for the tire and installation.

The 458 is very well built, much better than my previous F430 imho, and I suspect major problems will be few in the first 5 years of ownership.

    After that who knows?

I would get it. I have a 2012 458 in warranty that I bought last August with 7,000 miles. I have added another 7,000 miles and in that time have had a sensor fail in the gearbox, replaced under warranty, that would have cost £10,000 to fix. I have also had another sensor fail on the engine that was replaced ( I don't know how much that would have cost) and the car is in next week for faulty A/C unit. All taken care of under warranty. Love the car, love the warranty!

My 2013 458 Italia has with one year of warranty. I've put 5,000 miles on the car in 5 months and have had no problems except a bad battery that would have been covered by the battery maker warranty. It's nice to have a warranty while one gets a feel for the car but I won't be renewing the warranty because it's not worth the money.

I never buy warranties. I'd rather keep the $5K and invest it in something that will make money. So what if I get a $10k repair. I'm willing to take that risk. Real risk is having money in the stock market, or even more so, serving in a combat zone.

Take the risk. A life life lived without risk would be so boring, would it not?

Suggest looking into the "Power" warranty. Covers powertrain and running gear. Much cheaper than the all-in extended warranty and can be renewed out to 12 years I think.

Only 2 extended warranty options anymore.

Factory Extension you can do year 4 and/or year 5 and only if the car is still covered by the initial 3 year warranty. ( You may purchase 1 or 2 years while its under warranty )

Then, New Power Warranty, is your option for years 6-12.

Simpler , easier, and better coverage in the end.

And as another member posted above, having the warranty may be a value adder when it comes time to sell.

    It's a DIY job.

Tension spring holds it all together, bulb pops in and out, less than 15 minutes.

Assuming it's just a bulb. Which is normally is.

Should be $6,300 for 1 year and $9,900 for 2 years. Those
are Ferrari dealer prices. Just call around.

i just purchased a 2011 458 with 9600 miles. Stunning car, but not having owned a Ferrari before, I am a little torn on purchasing a warranty. Got a great deal from Lasalle warranty including bumper to bumper. Vehicle was inspected and fully serviced in the last month. Any opinions of a warranty is worth the $10K purchase over a 3 year period?

A don't think a warranty is worth it on this car. However, if it really hurts your enjoyment of the car to pay to fix it when it brakes as opposed to paying up front, maybe a warranty makes sense. I always get a one or two year warranty and then drive them hard to shake out any bugs.

Humm… I paid $5,700.00 for two years of the extended warranty. That’s $2,850 per year for a 2015 458 Italia.

Also, there was no cost for the CPO warranty inspection. It seems the prices are all over the map…

    Cheers!

    I guess mine is a bit more since it's a 2011. Still a fair deal at $11812 over a 4 year period.
