I do not know enough about 288s to be able to verify if its a genuine but modified Ferrari, but that F40 is no fake, its simply a real Ferrari F40 with modifications, whether people like that or not is simply an opinion, not a fact. If it was put up for sale as an original F40 LM then that is a different matter.
Let's not go wandering off in all directions. It's definitely not an original 288 GTO, my knowledge of them comes from being an owner, specialist and research gained over the yearsin the course of the 288 GTO book publication, several features on the car in the image make it clear that it's not a GTO, that's a fact. As regards the F40, I said it's an F40 LM lookalike, meaning it's not one of the factory sanctioned LMs, that's also a fact as the image shows and you pointed out yourself, nobody is saying it's not a real F40, or talking about whether we like F40s with modifications.
Now Joe, stop blowing your own trumpet as usual, you did not use the word fake so my reply was not directed your way. Rather than speculate, I actually did some digging, the car on top is a curious one, it has had extensive work carried out in its build and with no gearbox hanging out the back it is not based on any longitudinal Ferrari, but plenty of Goodridge goodness tucked away under there. Clearly built as a proper race/track car, not just a sort of lookalike. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I vaguely recall a Youtube "garage find" video about 18 months ago that caused a stir but was nothing more than a thinly veiled promo to sell the cars. Anyways, among a number of questionable cars in that dimly lit garage was a "fake" 288 GTO and for some reason, the rear view posted above reminded me of that car...
Nobody's blowing their trumpet, I'm simply stating on what collective basis I know a 288 GTO lookalike when I see one. If your quote was directed to a particular person, what you do is, hit reply to that person's quote, then we'll all know who you are talking to, it's very easy. From the point of view of the 288 GTO thread, regardless of whether it was built as a proper race car, it's still quite clearly a 288 GTO lookalike, the description is valid.
Do you have more elements about the F De Perrot s car? I heard the car is with one part of red inserts on the dashboard. Down the steering wheel.
Was that the one with the Amno guy attempting to clean some of them? these cars are in Europe somewhere, where as I believe those were in New York. Who knows though, maybe sold on and ended up in Europe. Few more of the F40 https://rsautosport.it/wp/2019/08/08/ferrari-f40-lm/ The 288 ish track car looks to be a scratch build around a space frame rather than 308 based (wrong screen as well) and with a longitudinal Ferrari engine Interesting car
Wow… I am glad that I posted the pic… Initially I thought it was a fake, however the fact that there was an F40 below me think that I could be wrong. I definitely do not have the experience to know the difference…. Sorry it was the wrong thread…. May the Horse be with you
Rescuing this thread which focuses on genuine 288 GTOs by moving along from the lookalikes, here's a real one. The award-winning 58137 which we sold to a gentleman. Image Unavailable, Please Login

I don't believe this has been posted here yet. Either brush off your school boy French or click the auto translate button!
This is bound be be in one of the 572 pages, but I have not spotted it, so I imagine a few others may not have either. You need to dust off your Italian this time around, although it seems to be based around a UK registered GTO. Having checked, that registration number is no longer live, so I imagine the car has moved on long ago, and the plate is on retention.
Here is the translation, is there something true in all this? Was this unit in the US? Image Unavailable, Please Login
XX use it to hide the full license plate ... Was it delivered new in Switzerland and always from F. de Perrot?
