I am aware that the grill in cars with pop up headlights is curved at the end; that results in a grill that is wider at the bottom than the top. In looking at the body parts manual the grill clearly has an end piece that is straight, and is angled out as it drops; also wider at the bottom than the top.
12699's grill has vertical edges; simply an oblong shape. As it is assembled with brass rivets it appears very original. Is it possible that the plexi nose cars had two different shapes?

12301 (if you go to RM's website, you can find a bunch of pics) "barn find" car seems to have the "sloped" grill ends. I looked at a few other plexis on the RM site, and all seemed to have the same type of grill.

Thanks gcalex. I quit at 15/15 on the RM site with angled (and 1 curved?).
No need to look further; just time to talk with my new friends in Australia.
    Thanks again.

Just an update; we sourced a very original configuration/finishes grill from Australia.
They did an exceptional job(!); at a reasonable price.
Glad to supply the contact information.

Apparently a great deal of effort went into getting the correct color on the aluminum.
I have yet to photograph it; and will do so as soon as practical!

    Many thanks Dave and Howard.
It's always nice to know the work is appreciated, even more so from people with your credentials.

    Just an update for all.
I have manufactured two more sets of Daytona grills. Two for plexi cars, and two pop up type.
Howard and Dave, they are up to my usual shoddy standards.
    Cheers

    Anytime, Murray.
I was just showing it to someone couple of days ago again and explained why an attempt to restore original to same quality is not worth the time and effort, let alone nearly impossible to achieve (been there, done/tried that).

    Agreed.
I have gone to a lot of trouble to reverse engineer the two types. I select good quality 6 series alloy to give the grill the structural integrity it needs, plus you need 6 series to get that crisp colour for the clear anodizing. 5 Series has a bit of green tinge to it, and you don't want that.
Each part is hand finished, edges beveled and screw recesses embossed and countersunk in the bottom plate. The whole grill is then assembled and checked before it is pulled apart to be plated with the black and clear anno.
The originals usually have been belted with stones and debris and that is hard to correct.
Keep up the good work Timo,
    Regards
