I'm reading the book written by Doug Nye regarding 2119 GT, the 250 GT SWB owned by Ross Brawn. In the book I'm unable to identify what the shade of blue is 2119 GT is painted in. Does anyone know?

It's a difficult question… The car has been repainted, but certainly with «modern» products (water paint) instead of acrylic paint from the period 50-60.

For me, the blue of 2119 GT could be Blu Notte Metallizzato (106-A-31). But I still have a doubt and depends of the pics and the light: I could imagine a Blu Ultrascuro (20-A-174) which is darker.

It should be the same color as 2735 GT, the 1961 SWB which belonged also to Rob Walker's team (Now Clive Beecham, since 1984). But when I see the picture it looks much lighter and I'm thinking about Blu Ferrari. To be honest I'm a little bit lost. And I'm certainly not the only one… As you noticed, nobody took the risk to answer your question !

Like 2119 GT 2735 GT was also born Blu Notte St. Andrews.
Today's color might be an interpretation of the original color. But it's best if you ask the current owner of 2735 GT who is an active fchatter.

As Marcel says, the colour requested by Rob Walker was Scots Blue, not an official Ferrari colour I imagine, though given that Stirling had agreed with Mr Ferrari to drive the 156 F1 shark nose in 1962 in Rob Walker blue, it may well have become a standard colour, but the crash the 1962 Goodwood Easter meeting put paid to that.

Scots blue was the team colour of course, as Rob Walker (an heir to Johnny Walker whiskey) was of Scottish descent - blue with white stripe for the Cross of St Andrew.. When I had the car restored first at DK in 1984 and then at Classiche in 2007/9, we talked a lot about what constituted this colour and general opinion was that the contemporary dark Jaguar blue was what Rob Walker asked for. My files of letters between Rob, Maranello Concessionaires and the factory show that 2735 was to be painted the same dark blue as 2119. Correctly, Marcel points out the old cellulose was no longer possible so he is right to use the word ‘interpretation’. Like Ecurie Ecosse Flag Metallic Blue, or the Jaguar and Aston versions of their 1950s racing greens and several others, there appears to be no precise modern iteration of all of these colours, so any line up of DB Astons, Jaguar Cs and Ds (either works or EE) always will show a degree of variation and the same is true of ‘Rob Walker Blue’.

How does this shade of blue compares to the 50 e 60 anni Blu Medio?

 

Does anyone know the history of this swb. A recaro bucket seat was fitted.
