My office used to be in a building with a bank on the first floor. I had my R8 parked out back and when I walked out there were some kids admiring it. They asked if it was mine then asked if I knew the guy who owned the Ferrari they had seen there before. I told them that was mine too and one kid said “holy ****….do you own the bank?” Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Recently achieved my lifelong dream of purchasing my first Ferrari. It’s been a few months now and I noticed there is a question I keep getting asked. “What do you do for a living?” I have noticed this is a Ferrari specific question. I don’t get asked this driving around in my other cars. The best part is the look on people’s faces when I answer the question… “I’m a lightbulb salesman.” -Evan
Well -- I'm a domestic auto service technician with no airs or false pretenses around me so you can imagine how much fun I have climbing out of my car with my uniform on . People think I'm working on it and it's not mine !! LOL !
Happy for your excitement - this is a regular observation ! https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/anyone-else-get-asked-what-do-you-do-for-a-living.650059/#post-148172427
Most asked.. how long have you had it? Or are you the original owner? That's most asked in car circles like a cars n coffee etc. Random at the gas pump stuff What you pay for a car like that? How fast have you got that up to? You have to be ready for all kinds of questions its part of the deal. My go to if I'm not in a chatty mood is dunno I just work for the owner.
In the Ferrari's that I have owned I don't remember being asked that question. But when I owned the Gallardo and Diablo I was asked that and the how fast does it go a lot.
Owned and driven since 1987..... never once asked that. Most comments are "what year" or "absolutely beautiful". One gal asked me if it was an Aston Martin.
Oh all the time get asked that. Just last week in fact. I just answer "Doctor". And they "ooohhhh. Ok."
Guys... it's from a tick tocker Daniel Mac, they are just copying him for fun, it's a joke, they don't care what you do for a living.
If they ask what you do for a living, paraphrasing Dan Hurlbert's wife Megan on YouTube when asked that question driving his Ferrari, "I don't discuss my porn money"
In the 8 years I’ve owned my car, I have never been asked what I do. I get the other questions, how fast, how much, etc, but the question I get most frequently regarding my 308 is, “is that the Magnum car?” It is always a harmless conversation opener which I enjoy.
I get asked that and how much did it cost ... mainly by young guys to which I answer ... Hard work and too much but nothing you cannot do if you want it bad enough cause when I was your age I did not have a penny ...
I've been asked that question many times. I usually answer the truth. Next question I'm asked is either "how fast have you gone" or "how much". I try to avoid both of those questions by changing the subject.
I was asked how much my car costs by an obnoxious high school kid while filling my Scud up at the gas station. I quoted him in dollars/pounds (about $100/lb) and just saw his face go blank trying to process that information.
I live in Silicon Valley, where the most expensive cars are common (although I have yet to see a Bugatti). Nobody asks me anything.
Daniel Mac has asked me that question a few times with his camera in my face and I get asked all the time by others (likely of those mimicking Daniel). It’s fun and I always come up with a fun new career to share.
Nothing more cringe-worthy than people trying to come up with supposedly humorous responses like "I am a drug dealer", "I do bitcoin", "I do porn", "I don't do anything", etc... All heard a thousand times, not clever at all and just embarrassing really. Most people asking are genuinely interested, want to be inspired and need to believe that their dream can also become reality one day. Nothing wrong with staying vague or refusing to answer if privacy is a concern.
Haven’t been asked what I do for a living, but one woman asked me if it was the new Mustang… Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
