People talk about exhaust sounds all the time at FC. This model has a good sound, this one is bad, this aftermarlet one prouduces a good sound, etc

I don't know what the criteria ismfor good or bad

Lots of people say the 488 has a bad sounding exhaust. I think mine sounds pretty good with the Forza module that keeps my valves open.

It's obviously not just how loud it is, right?

Then I watched this video and the exhausts all sound different, but I couldn't tell you which ones were good or bad. I only noticed that the F8 and SF90 exhausts seemed much quieter than I expected.

Just could use some help to understand what good Sounds.

Ideally not inline with a turbo but it’s hard to come by that nowadays. I would always prefer a non muted or throttled sound coming from the engine particularly when under load. The older ripping v8 NA sounds were fantastic. Love the NA v10 and v12 as well for same reason. No mistaking it is full bodied and wide in aural range frequency. Lower end rumbles and shrieking red line. I am always surprised to see an exotic drive by which looks fantastic but may be underwhelmed with the sound coming from it while it is going light speed.

Preface it by saying it’s very subjective…. But to me it’s about exemplifying the epitome of the high revving F1 sounds howling through the Monaco tunnels in the early 2000’s.
It’s about the high pitch and tone. Few production engines do this out of the box, such as the CGT.
TDF can do it with X pipe and exhaust.
    Speciale with headers back.
    Murcielago Bizzarrini engine decat back.

Can’t reproduce these symphonies with turbo engines. Impossible.

Improving the sound the car came with and keeping increased resonance to a minimum

    16M vs Aston vs CGT
Aston is known for the lower growl
    CGT is the epitome IMO.

I'd love to get this sound on my 89 328. Does anyone out there have something even close?

Startup and idle sounds are never great. Wide open at full revs is where you judge them.

Definitely a very subjective topic, I personally always avoided going with exhausts that created too high of a pitch. Definitely want to build on the original sound but without creating that "tinny" metallic sound a lot of exhausts on the market end up making.

The V12 on WOT is awesomely harmonic. These clips do not capture how loud this IRL:

I don't know technically what makes a good sounding, what I know it's that Maserati models have a very good sound. I mean, not only MC20, also the Ghibli sounds in a very aggressive way.
