This is so damn embarrassing, but I cannot find a socket to get the spark plugs out! Could someone recommend something that will work? I have tried the following 13/16 sockets and they are all too big it fit into the cavity:

Sunex 884507 3/8-Inch Drive 13/16-Inch Extra Deep Spark Plug Socket
Sunex 2626 1/2-Inch Drive 13/16-Inch Extra Thin Wall Deep Impact Socket
Performance Tool W32921 Performance Tool 1/2-Inch Impact Drive 13/16-Inch Thin Wall Socket
    Crescent 13/16" Socket
CRAFTSMAN 13/16" Spark Plug Socket, 3/8-Inch Drive (CMMT43325)
CRAFTSMAN Deep Impact Socket, SAE, 1/2-Inch Drive, 13/16-Inch (CMMT16062)
    Powerbuilt 641853 3/8" Dr. 6 Pt. Magnetic Swivel Spark Plug Socket, 13/16" x 6" L

Has anyone tried either this Mercedes 1075810067 Heyco 21mm tool or maybe even one of these other spark plug jobbies (Spark Plug Removal Tool 21mm T-Handle Flexible Socket Wrench)?

I feel like a REALPRO asking this question!

I found that the one from old 911 works great, really easy to manoeuvre in the front bank. You can pick them up fairly cheaply if you look around:

Hmmm...I have a variety of spark plug sockets of various brands and when I need one I just grab whichever one comes to hand. Haven't had one fail to fit properly though I admit I haven't specifically checked each one - never occurred to me that they wouldn't fit! ;) But maybe I've just (by luck) always grabbed the same one that just happens to fit. As they say, luck is better than skill! :)

85 QV here. 13/16 craftsman socket w/foam insert, a 2 1/2” extension and a swivel joint gets front bank plugs easily replaced on mine. Running NGK BPR7EIX plugs. Are you sure you’re getting the socket down on plug? Seems very odd.

Durabuilt socket from... AutoZone, maybe? Or one of those box parts stores. Works great.

I just use a regular 13/16" socket, not a spark plug socket.
My 50 year old SK deep 13/16" socket fits fine.

Spark plug sockets usually have some rubber material inside to grab the plug. I just use piece of fuel line to stick down in the hole and grab the plug after it is loose.
I also use the hose to manually start the plug so i know that it isn't cross threading.

Hey guys, just to put a bow on this, I ordered this Motion Pro 21mm Motorcycle Spark Plug socket and it works great:

    https://www.motionpro.com/product/08-0653

It fits right down in the holes and is JUUUUST the right length so you have all options for extensions and swivels. Hopefully, this helps the next guy who doesn't have the tool kit!

I completely understand your problem. I had the same issue when I bought my 1st 328. Making matters worse you don't even know what size plug that the previous owner has in there! As I recall, I bought an 18 mm, thin wall, BMW spark plug socket from Amazon and that seemed to fit perfectly.

My 1982 308GTSi has a very tight fit around the stock socket. Tried 3 others..... the metal sleeve is very tight on my ‘82..... just saying
