Anyone know if installing an oem non airbag steering wheel on a 95 456 gt that came with an airbag steering wheel will a) fit (with or without an adapter) b) not trigger any lights?

It will trigger a light unless you fit a 3.5 ohm resistor to the airbag connector.

Looking at the parts manual, it seems that the non-airbag wheel is held on with only the centre nut.

    https://www.eurospares.co.uk/parts/ferrari/456-gt-gta/suspension-steering/steering-column-31301

The airbag wheel has attachment points for the centre nut (same part number) and the spiral contact. The spiral contact is attached by 3 bolts. I guess you'd dump the spiral contact if you were switching to a non-airbag wheel? Note there are two different types of airbag wheel spiral contacts. The rest of the column seems to be the same.

    Experts?

Interestingly I have ordered the parts to install a Momo steering wheel in place of my airbag wheel in my 1995 456 GT.

My plan is to create a Resistor/Fuse combo to plug in place of my current airbag, this should retain functionality of the passenger airbag and keep the dash light from staying on.... I am using a Hill Engineering Momo adapter specifically made to replace a airbag wheel with a non-airbag Momo wheel.

Will be working on this on Sunday and will try to remember to report back success or failure.

Is that the same Hill Engineering adaptor used on the F355?

    https://www.ricambiamerica.com/sws-355b-f355-steering-wheel-spacer.html

Here's an ad for a 456 airbag steering wheel.

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ferrari-456-GT-GTA-Steering-Wheel-157313-ATD-SPORTSCARS-/401021221010?_ul=IL

I see 4 allen-headed bolts. I guess the adaptor is attached to the splined section using those....or the slightly less conspicuous black ones in the Ricambi kit.

You are correct... as near as I can confirm the airbag steering wheel for the 355 and the 456 are the same in 1995, the Hill Engineering adapter is to install a Momo wheel to a airbag 355 column... so I bought it to try it out. I picked up a cheap momo version to see how it fits, if it works, I can find a really nice Momo wheel to use... but we will see!

I installed the Hill Engineering adapter and it bolted right up.... no issues. Put an inexpensive wheel on to see if it fits and it does.... I used a 3.3 ohm resistor, and just adapted the leads to plug into the red airbag plug, used some heat shrink to insulate it and it works correctly. Turn on the key, airbag light comes on for a few seconds, then it goes off and stays off till next time you cycle the key.

Thanks for the update, Lance. At least we know a 6 hole Momo works with the adaptor. I'm wondering how the OEM no-airbag wheel attaches.

@mominayal , what wheel do you intend to use?

There is an oem euro non airbag wheel available and was hoping to use that but didn’t want to buy it until I knew for sure.

The OEM airbag wheel affixes to the hub with 4 allen bolts... the Hill Adapter comes with 4 allen bolts to attach the Adapter to those same four mounting points. It was literally about a 15 minute job overall... the longest part was determining how to get the 3.3 ohm resistor plugged into the OEM red airbag plug, but I was able to fold over the resistor leads and encase the resistor and leads in heatshrink to keep it insulated, then pushed the resistor leads into the red plug.

Understood, but the original poster says he wants to fit an OEM non-airbag steering wheel, not an aftermarket Momo wheel (with a 4 to 6 hole adaptor).

From photos, the non-airbag OEM wheel doesn't appear to have a momo style 6 screw hole pattern (I stand to be corrected). Mominayal would have to confirm his new steering wheel has 6 holes.

Is that yellow ring on the rear side a removable paper sticker?

Yes, I too wanted the OEM non-airbag wheel... I could not ever confirm how it attaches and I too did not want to spend $2K to "see if it works"....so I am going with a nice Momo.

I'll get some pix posted of what I did... just waiting for the new steering wheel to disassemble all again...

From that photo, it seems pretty clear that the wheel is only held on with the centre nut.

Affirmative the wheel and hub attach with a center nut, but the wheel attaches to the hub with the four screws shown here. From a used 575M CF wheel and hub I sold quite a while ago.

Now I'm confused again, Terry. Is that a non-airbag wheel? If non-airbag wheels have 4 screw holes, then there is not even a need for an adaptor.

I was playing with the thougjt of «backdating» my 550 with a wooden steering wheel… Like the 250/275 etc. Are there a good looking wooden steering wheel that could fit which also include an airbag that could be added and that would work woth the rest of the airbag system? I remember the Maserati 4200 could be had from the factory with a wooden wheel, but that was not looking good. The two cars share the exact same wheel just that the Maser has a trident and the Ferrari has a horse in the center cap… Anyone seen the very rare 1997-2000 Maserati Ghibli airbag steering wheel? That felt very noce when driving the car! Might fit.

I have not come across any wood wheel that looked "right" in my 456GT.... I have one that was in another of my cars and it just looked totally out of place...
