First glance at the prototype of Mauro Barbieri's spectacular new book "Riferimenti di Colore per Auto d'Epoca" ("Vintage Car Color References") featuring many dozens of original color and paint samples (color wheels) used by Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Lancia, Alfa Romeo and the like.
I was privileged to see the book prototype last week and was highly impressed by the contents. Book is NOT finished yet but it will be of massive information value and in great detail.
I expect this new publication to appear in about a year or so.
Author Mauro Barbieri is a retired top painter for Ferrari classic cars with incredible knowledge and lives in the greater Modena area.

You are buying a book about italian craftsmanship and part of Ferrari and Scuderia Ferrari history
and in my eyes it‘s a very good read.

I only started reading the book, but my first impression of the text is very good!

For example, who would have thought that Schedoni luggage saves lives as it is said to have done in the case of a Berlinetta Boxer driver who crashed heavily, but got out of it unharmed protected by Schedoni bags which served as "airbags"?

As I know that several renowned authors of Ferrari literature are following this thread like @Marcel Massini @Doug Nye @piloti @stevewak and others (my apologies if I missed someone, please feel included), I would like to address the following question: Is there any chance that one of you will write and publish a book about David Piper's beautiful (and successful) BP Green racing cars? Again and again I ask myself why this great chapter of motor racing and today's classic car racing has never been covered by an individual book. And, of course, a limited edition with BP Green leather livery and signed by David Piper would be highly appreciated.

David Piper's wife, Liz, was writing a book titled something like "The Ferraris at the bottom of my garden" but I don't know what has happened to it and it hasn't appeared.

Speaking of books supposedly in the works.....Has anyone heard if the long anticipated book on Chinetti and NART is going to be published? It has has a star-crossed gestation with lead author Michael Lynch dying, and then David Bull also dying after picking up the sword after Michael's death. There have also been rumors of Luigi, Jr’s. recalcitrance in bringing the book to print.

Luigi Chinetti is arguably the most important individual in the history of Ferrari, with the exception of Enzo himself. (Doubt me? Where would Ferrari be today had there not been a Luigi Chinetti in the 1950s, 60s and 70s?). It’s a shame that no comprehensive account of his life has been published....and with every day that passes there are fewer and fewer primary sources.

Without Chinetti Sr., it's highly unlikely Ferrari would exist today.

IMHO I am going to doubt you just a little :). If Luca hadn’t taken over when Enzo passed we would not have Ferrari today. He understood Enzo so well he continued his tradition of building these wonderful cars. No other car company has done what Ferrari has done and I don’t think anyone else could have done what Enzo started and what Luca carried on…well until now. Look what our corporate world has done to it in such a short time:mad:

I’m not saying he wasn’t important factor. I guess my point is that without Luca; Ferrari, Spa would have died by the mid 90s. Not just from that current management but the poor economic situation at the time. If Luca hadn’t stepped in and did what he did Fiat would have pulled the plug on the show and all that had work Chinette had done would be for not.

Ferrari as a company would not have survived the 1950s without Luigi Chinetti IMO.

Opening the American market saved the company and opened Ferrari’s eyes to the crucial importance...and potential....of the road car business.

Just a quick FYI I am selling one copy of my Maserati the Citroen years 1968-1975 book since I have a spare and am reorganizing, see link below

    https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/book-maserati-the-citroen-years-for-sale-by-author.651835/

Discussion of the sale there not here please.

Here is Jay Leno's autograph for me in my personal copy which I am keeping, a unique way to sign:)! Of course he was kind enough to write the foreword 8 years ago:)

Anecdotally it is thanks to Citroen SM California specialist and genius guru Jerry Hathaway that I was able to contact Jay back in 2012. Jay had been his client for decades for his own SM.
In a strange twist of life I drove Jerry's famous 200+mph/325kmh twin turbo Citroen SM salt lake record car, the fastest Citroen of all time bar none, -and the bespoke SM pickup he made!- in Belgium late September for an upcoming major feature in Octane Magazine UK...Photos from the shoot that day by Dennis Notens Copyright him and Octane Magazine....and at just about the same time Jerry passed away very suddenly in his California office of a heart attack. A major and very sad loss. Thankfully I had interviewed him fully in the spring by phone and email. When I emailed Jay asking for his final words on Jerry the answer arrived almost instantly and he clearly held him in very high regard...

In yesterday's newsletter, Porter Press announced a new Ferrari F40 book to be published in 2022. Considering that there are quite a few excellent F40 books around already, I am eager to see in which way they will add anything to the topic. As they have been successful to do so with Ultimate GTO, one can hope for a positive surprise in this case as well.

I know Keith Bluemel has been working on an F40 book. I didn't ask him who was publishing it though but perhaps it is Porter Press. I hope it won't be £450!!!

The one from (deceased) German author Werner Schruf is outstanding.

For an Australian that doesn't read German they are very nice picture books. :)

My opinion there is not really a good book out on the F40 in English, so this is fantastic news

Finally bought one of my holy grail collections.

Big thank you to Andy from Cotswold Road and Race as well as Nathan Beehl for sourcing all the various components to the full collection.

Amazingly it is a rare matching low number set, all three books are numbered 6 so I couldn't be happier.

Just finished unboxing them so can't wait for the weekend to sit down and have a good read.
