Says Ferrari...come on... Maybe there was nothing wrong with his brakes. I think it's lovely you are so trusting.
Given Ferrari NA says to pull the parking brake in an emergency, I thought I'd try that out to experience it and see how the car behaves. I would suggest that you try doing this once or twice just to get a feel for it and to get some muscle memory where the switch location is. It was easy to control even with 1 hand on the wheel, but it was a little tricky as it's either on or off.
Thanks Dan - as a new owner, it is super helpful to see this in action. Great videos, as always - been a big fan for a while now. Ruben
You're most welcome. I'll admit I mostly did this one for my own curiosity... But figured it would be helpful to other owners.
Of course what I would really like to be able to do is pull the parking brake and downshift like crazy. But I only have one left hand so so I have to choose or alternate back and forth.....
For those not "in the know" on checking the fluid level (like myself lol), here's a quick link to do so... https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1584687/Ferrari-458-Italia.html?page=451
Really? I didn't get any warning or notice and i'm using a very stout Webroot business protection system in my office. What did you see?
My level looks fine and pedal feel was normal, however, why aren't there any max or min indicators?? Image Unavailable, Please Login View attachment 476942
To confirm for 488 owners, the EPB works the same as in “Normal Guy’s” 458 video. Pull and continue pulling the Parking Brake switch: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Good morning, any updates? I’m reluctant to use my car at this moment. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Correct, asked my tech couple days ago, has heard nothing new.... Unfortunately, his is a Bosch part, so that is causing a further issue / finger pointing, etc.....
Maybe they are blaming each other and in the meantime our cars stopped because with this info in hand who can rely a hard braking??? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Yours hasn’t stopped! According to the letter I got that means you should pull over immediately and have your car towed the the nearest dealership! Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
It does not seem odd to me at all. This is a rare failure so it will take a lot of time to duplicate the failure and then be sure that you are really duplicating the same failure and not artificially creating another failure. Then you have to design a replacement part that will not fail in the same way or any other way. Then you have to do extensive testing on the new design. You have to test it significantly more than the original testing because that obviously was not enough or we would not be in this situation. Then you have go into production with the new design. These steps all take a lot of time and you do not want to rush any of them and end up not fixing the problem or creating a new defect. I do not expect a fix for many months. I am still driving my car.
All true should take some time but not take 'a lot' of time. These are not Ferrari made parts. The OEM does this for a living. They have all the design models, test data, production records, simulations, material studies, production tooling, reliability data, etc. Not a big task for an OEM.
If the issue is a master cylinder/booster seal failure, could lightly driven Ferrari's be the culprit? Seals that are not used will fail over time? Ask any 328 owner....
