It is not a regulator, it is a damper. It has a spring loaded diaphragm and is intended to smooth out variations in fuel pressure. One side has fuel under pressure and the other has a vent to atmosphere. It was installed on cars with a frequency valve and evidently the frequency valve in operation could cause small but rapid variations that were felt to be detrimental to a smooth transition of mixture. .
They have been known to leak from the vent and it isn't a bad precaution to put a hose on the vent and direct any possible fuel leakage away from the exhaust.

Does anyone know of a cross reference for part number 121514? It's a frequency valve damper Bosch # 0280161019 - can't find one. Are there other Bosch part numbers that can be used? I saw a thread that seemed to indicate Bosch 0280161007 may work. Thanks in advance.

Man I cannot remember exactly but I feel like it was a Bosch used on a Mercedes 450SL but can't recall for sure. I'm going back 20 years I got mine from Autohausaz. I'll try to go through my files and come up with a part number

Unfortunately I cannot find my old 328 file I now have a 348 the 328 did use the same fuel damper as the 308 ...same part number.121514. I can tell you it's not really a fuel pressure regulator it is used as a "damper " to smooth out irregularities and I can also tell you mine was dripping from the overflow tube which is why I replaced it but I recall when I replaced it it didn't affect how it ran at all whatsoever. But it was a pretty dangerous situation because it was dripping raw fuel right on to the exhaust can. I remember when I installed the new one that I put a high temperature tube and routed it downward in the event of any future leak. That alternate part number you posted visually looks the same if you can find out the bar rating of the 2 I think it would work satisfactorily but perhaps you should repost this on the 3x8 section.

Thanks for the assist - I'll get on it ASAP. I have a leak as well and do not want the fuel on the exhaust like you. Getting some high temp hose is a great idea in the event I have to reinstall the old damper.

Well got really really bored and went through some old files and I found my 328 file. So as it turns out I bought the part back in 2014 and it was that alternative number that you have 0280161007. The fitment is from a 1987 + /- Mercedes 450SSL or a Porsche 928 but I don't believe the part is available any longer. I paid $82 from autohausaz!

Thank you for the confirmation - I was able to source that part as well. It is used but does not leak :)
    Thanks again
