I’m glad that I grew up during a period where fast cars were cool looking cars. I couldn't imagine washing one of these transportation appliances on a Saturday morning all proud of it. I look at them the same way I look at a toaster or an elevator.

Screw the Ring. Set a proper lap time on a track like Spa. It won't get past turn 10 before the brakes are cooked. It may be fast, but it's a crap car. Those brakes are shockingly poor.

You act like Tesla's the only company that's ever going to make electric cars.

Somebody is going to make small, lightweight, sexy looking electric sports cars. Because there will be a market for them.

A full electric Lotus, for example, could easily get into the 8 second 1/4 mile range and would DESTROY the Nurburgring.

The anti-electric posts in this thread are so shortsighted and show a surprising lack of vision and imagination.

Still boring soulless electrical appliances. As far as the electric vehicle future goes, they are the obvious choice for boring A -B transportation in places like where I live where 95%+ of our electricity is generated from clean hydro power and we have an overabundance of it. No argument there. It still doesn't make them fun.

I think what many of you are missing is that several respectable and admirable automotive people (even just here) have tried EV's like the Tesla and have said "...hey guys & gals, its not that bad after all..." Yet many of you continue to fight it tooth & nail. Not one of them are trying to convince you, they are all just trying to communicate to you what is basic fact. I suggest that you don't just argue the opinion out of spite ~ just learn from it.

It does not have to be. The Tesla Roadster based on the Elise is still one of the most fun and engaging cars I have experienced. And my list of experienced cars include the F40, 250, Pista's, SF90, and many more exotics than I care to remember.

If I was adding an electric to the fleet now I would easily pick the Tycan. When Ferrari brings electric I will be interested as long as the style is becoming. Can’t get excited about driving something mainstream-Tesla. Likely might go with hybrid for the next daily luxury sedan and New Range Rover at least until charging situation improves.
For my pure exotic excitement I will stick with Ferrari ICE.

I don’t have an issue with EVs, I have an issue with Tesla (design, quality, materials, driving experience, not to mention gov subsidies, CEO, cause based, etc). But as far as EVs go I’m all about trying them and just bought a Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo to try out.

Brakes in Plaid are the one very important component that Tesla seems to have ignored in development of that car, they are very weak indeed.
The CCBs in M5 CS are just amazing and are exactly what the Tesla needs.
Suspension also is outdated and needs a total re-do, gets bouncy when driving it at 6/10.
9/10 or more is impossible on normal roads for more then just a few seconds.

Look, I have to apologize to Rob , i should not have said he was driving improperly cooking the brakes on his 328, I dont have any experience with my car on track, with that being said, I know I have as much experience in the mountains and canyons with my 328, at 10 / 10 ths. no BS or lie, as he has on a track, so I dont have any say in his experience on the track in a 328. My experience is that I have never heated my brakes to the point of fading , by the looks of the videos I have seen , 328s on track, it does not look like they are going fast enough to brake that hard as to find them fading. As far as Teslas are concerned, I have read in several write ups, that they have an overall poor build quality. Ok 1000 HP electric, I get it, I just dont see the excitement or gratification as to it being faster than anything, Ferrari included, I really think its stupid to even acknowledge it. Same as if Ferrari built an electric that is faster than the tesla, who cares !!! I previously said that Im happy my 328s brakes work well, and thats its 32 years old, and thats it . Tesla can build a 2000 HP car, ok, good for them, Ill take my Q50 with the 400 HP tune, get behind a plaid, knowing his car is heavy and his brakes suck, and Ill pass him around the first corner that his brakes get cooked. No disrespect to any here owning and enjoying his electric car, if your happy, Im happy. One more mention , a good friend of mine just bought a tesla model s dual motor, he likes it, he also has a 5 series BMW, and his opinion, by driving them both, that the 5 handles better.

    Thank you

When I first had my Suzuki GSXR 1300 s motor rebuilt with a 1400 CC Big Bore Kit, from APE, this was a complete top and bottom end rebuild, with dual exhaust cams, one for intake and one for exhaust. My engine builder, who is a semi pro winning bike drag racer, took me to his dyno tuner in palmdale, its a much higher elevation than La, but this is where we went. At this point, my motor is broken in , and I will be taking it to be spun again , on a dyno, at a shop near by, complete with the Power Commander 5 that I had in the bike at that first dyno run. I anticipate at least 225 HP at the rear wheel. So if any of you , who are in La, and owing a plaid, want to see what real acceleration is, we can go from a stop, or a rolling start, you will be obliterated , to say the least, and yes, it will be as stupid as anyone in a plaid racing a Ferrari , it makes no sense to do either, its that simple . Oh and by the way, I will also have my IRC blipper installed , so 12,000 RPM full throttle upshifts, how will you compete with that ? , its impossible .lol . Oh and by the way, my 2020 Ducati Streetfighter will also obliterate any tesla, any day of the week, and 4 times on Sunday .

    Thank you

I'm curious: what, exactly, did you not like about the experience of driving a Tesla (or Taycan or whatever performance EV you drove)?

I'll say this, having owned every mass-market Tesla they've ever made (a 3P and a Y of sit alongside my 458 in the garage): in my experience, *most* ice cars made these days are far more deserving of the label "boring soulless appliances" than the Teslas are. I rented a 5-series in Chicago last week, and the thing couldn't even muster a donut in a parking lot. I dove an Audi S4, and it felt heavier that the Tesla Model 3 and was nearly as quiet. CLA45? Impressive motor, but feels porky. The Vovlo S60 I drove was decent, but the UI/UX and overall performance was unimpressive. The Teslas are, for me, genuinely more entertaining, faster, have better tech. To be honest, I feel like they are more of a “car” than most watered-down ICE generic-mobiles are these days.

It’s also worth nothing that we have FSD (Full Self Driving) beta on both of the Teslas, and they feel like they have a “soul” in a way that no other car I've driven does. As in: it thinks and learns. Sure, it makes mistakes, but it’s super cool that the car can handle 99% of scenarios on its own: making judgement calls based not only on my surroundings, but what it predicts other drivers will do. And it gets better every 2 weeks with new beta releases! There’s simply nothing else like it out there. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea but, as someone who loves bleeding edge technology, having it accessible in a car that does 0-60 in 3.1s while costing under $70k is pretty f’ing rad!

I’ve rarely heard criticisms from people who have actually spent time in good EVs (like the Teslas and Porsches), so would be interested to hear your take on what you don’t like about them based on your own first-hand experiences.

It also helps to acknowledge that many of us understand and respect their opinions yet we don’t agree with them. It’s not that they are wrong or we are right.

It all boils down to personal preference.

M5 CS 'eh? Go to the video below.

Thinks the 5 is better? Watch video.

Randy is a heck of a guy & a hell of a driver. Just watch & see what he puts down lap time wise. Then gain perspective.

As I’ve posted before, we have a Tesla (more accurately I gifted one to my father, but I have plenty of seat time). It is fast, comfortable, reliable and has very cool tech. In my mind it’s a no brainer when choosing between a comparably priced ICE sedan. However I dislike driving sedans/suvs, and, prefer to daily drive a nimble, fun, involving car that sounds great for as long as possible.

Hopefully by the time I’m forced to buy an EV for myself they will have better options than the current crop of numb heavyweights. Thankfully for now they are still making manual P-cars, 400z and emiras.

I can’t speak for others but I have driven all of those cars personally except the Plaid.

While I agree that they are technologically impressive and very quick I have zero interest in them. I just find them sterile and soulless. Yes I was impress by their speed but at this stage in my life that is no where near the top of my priorities for a street car.

Some of us are just wired different and that’s ok. A SF90 is “better” than a F40. An Apple Watch is no doubt “better” than my old Omega. A new Shimano spinning reel is “better” than my fly rod. An ATV is “better” than horseback but I still prefer the later. And on and on…

For us outliers it isn’t about “better”. It’s about an experience or something intrinsic that connects with a part of our soul. I would imagine the EV fans feels the same way.

These are great points. I didn’t buy a 599 because it can do 202 mph. I bought it because, when I press on the gas, it grumbles, moans and puts chills in my spine, all while looking good. I guess it must be similar to the feelings that jockeys on a race horse feel right as the gate opens. My xr80 dirt bike I had when I was 10 was faster than a race horse, but the feeling you must get when you wrap your legs around a 1000 pound beast that is flexing and rearing must be similar to the feelings I get when I fire up the 599. That is the “soul” for me.
