Currently located in Ojai, California, this 1988 560SL was previously owned in Beverly Hills and the Los Angeles area. The seller has put on 35,000 of the 129,655 total miles in the past 6 years of ownership. Close to all-original 30 years after being built, this classy roadster benefits from a host of maintenance work to ensure its next steward has the opportunity to enjoy some vintage, top-down motoring.

Featuring a convertible softtop and detachable hardtop, an SL-class offered something for everyone and towards the end of production, the 560SL range-topper hit the streets with a beefy V8. Tan upholstery covers the front buckets, center armrest and door panels which all show signs of wear but appear to be in overall good condition. The black dashboard has cracks as detailed in the gallery, as does the shifter surround. The factory, 4-spoke steering wheel with airbag fronts a set of VDO gauges, behind a clear cover, for coolant temperature, fuel level, oil pressure, “Economy” which measures vacuum, 170-mph speedometer and 7,000-rpm tachometer.

This particular car was optioned with the ambient air temperature gauge set within the central HVAC vent. Other features include automatic climate control (581), anti-theft warning system (581) and the original first-aid kit. An aftermarket, Alpine stereo with CD player has been added and the passenger side window switch has been replaced.

Sitting in a clean engine bay is the original M117 5.5L V8 that made 227 horsepower and 279 lb-ft of torque when new, sending power to the rear wheels via the original 4-speed automatic. The vehicle benefits from a long list of fresh components, installed in February of this year, that includes the following:
    • Fan shroud
    • Radiator
    • Steering damper
    • Valve cover gaskets
    • Gear box seal kit
    • Shifter bushings
    • Transmission cooling hoses and pan gasket
    • Power steering hoses and pump seal kit
    • Alternator belt
    • A/C belt
Factory-equipped with fully independent suspension and four-wheel disc brakes, this 560SL had the oil changed and transmission fluid flushed in February 2021 along with new brake rotors and pads installed in November of this year. Service records for the work listed above are included with the sale.
