Well said, and I'm with ya': different strokes fro different folks!

I'm just grateful that I connect emotionally with both my Ferrari and the Teslas - in very different ways, of course. The Ferrari is a romantic relationship, whereas the Teslas are sorta like children. Love the **** outta them both, just to different ends!

someone would rather drive "10/10ths" on public mountain roads with other traffic, cyclists, unpredictable conditions, no runoff, no roll cage... ;) as we all know, the BEST mountain drivers are willing to crest a hill full bore not knowing what is on the other side like a tractor, construction, or even a hair pin. :D  ;)

I have no freaking idea why are we even discussing Tesla track abilities?
It is not built to be a GT3 RS competitor on track, it is a heavy pig of a car designed to be a family sedan, a daily driver not a sports or race car.
Yes, it should have better brakes that more aggressive drivers would appreciate but for 99% of buyers the stock units are perfectly sufficient.
I would not dare to take my previous S63 on the track either and that car had CCBs but with it's weight it would not last more then a few laps either.
Even the M5 CS, already judged by many testers as the best high performance sedan, is the wrong choice to be flogged on a track.
Like someone mentioned, just the fact that we even dare to compare a soccer mom mobile with Ferraris or Porsches, dedicated sports cars, speaks volumes about that car's abilities.
.....and again, "I have not driven it but I don't like it" statements are really worthless opinions but reflect the times we currently live in, where "feelings" are more important then actual experience and facts.

What's 'better' can be determined regarding objectively measured things.

I mean, either 0-60 and 1/4 mile are objective measures. The fact you brought up the Hellcat is precisely my point; why bring it up if speed is a personal element?

The OPs premise is simple; electricity is commoditizing speed. What should Ferrari's response be?

Many folks say Ferrari should no longer be competitive in the performance arena. I don't understand it, but here it is again.

When it comes facts, the Plaid is one-fourth the price and is a full-size family sedan on a 10-year-old platform?

Yes, 'smoke' would be the pejorative I would use.

By the way, in drag strips and race tracks, fractions of a second are an eternity; there are many videos out there of Plaid vs. SF90 (among other cars). Just take a moment, remove your red-tinted glasses, and approach the topic unbiased.

Watch a few of the races, watch some of the electric track videos.

Why do you think Ferrari is releasing an all-electric car in 3 years if I was wrong?

Because some people need "validation" of a choice, whether they have several options, or only one.

I disagree with all of the premises that a Plaid will "smoke" a Ferrari SF90. I call for a Cannonball Run!! Then, we will have a true measure. :D

I haven't owned a Tesla (or any EV for that matter) but have driven several belonging to friends or family members. I have to admit, I'm a Tesla fan. Would I take one over my lowly Mondial or Landcruiser? Not at this point, but I do have an incredible amount of respect for what Tesla has done. They've created several FAST models that are designed and built here in the U.S. They've pushed innovation in both EV technology, styling, building the cars, and even in their GTM strategy. They've forced carmakers from around the world to sit up, take notice, and become more innovative themselves. For all of that, I have a significant amount of respect for what Tesla has accomplished. Whether or not the Plaid (or any other of their performance-oriented models) is "better" than other high-end, hi-performance offerings is immaterial for me. I just take pride in their American success story.

The drive isn’t the issue. It’s the design, the build quality, the materials, etc that fail to be commensurate with the price and/or lux car moniker. I agree with earlier posters… pull the roller skate out from under the Tesla and slide it under a Fisker, a vintage Jag, a classic Rolls, similar to an Icon or what have you and then we’d be talking. But adding a v8? Dumb.

Why doesnt tesla put an end to all this, and make the played out( plaid) wheels with electric motors, a 2000 HP version, then we can all move on, good grief . If your choosing between a tesla and a Ferrari, get one thing straight, you should not be owning a Ferrari at all, ever, its that simple , not that any present company is being indecisive. My 328 sitting , looks faster than any tesla ever will, and like with any other Ferrari, it the same. Lets put a 1000 HP pinto against the SF 90 , in a drag race, its idiotic, same with any set of rubber wheels driven with a heaving wire winding with pickups.

    Thank you.

Puts into perspective all the discussions around performance statistics for all these cars in a daily use environment.

Unless you race or track them, the stats are meaningless. It’s about looks, feel and driver experience and ego. Even with a Plaid, you’ll only outrace a Civic to the next light and he’ll be right there next to you at the next light.

Yep, and that 1.3g's of acceleration in a Plaid from the red light feels amazing and puts a huge grin on my face every time.

So, zero to license suspension in, what, 2.5 seconds?

I managed that with only 180 hp once, but it took a bit longer than 2.5 sec. :D

I think we can all take a lesson here, and the moral of the story is don't do this with 180 horsepower, you need more to speed up so the cops can't catch you. Hence, no license suspension...:D

Oooh. Talk about your misleading titles Car and Driver. Tsk, Tsk, Tsk...

The article goes on to say the Plaid is GOVERNED at 162 mph, so that Tesla can pry some more cash out of you for 200 mph.

    That's not "can't", that's "won't."
