Question. This car is supposed to be a radio-delete, but it looks like there is an electric antenna switch in its usual location just north of the window switches in the center console. Or is that for something else?

The harness is identical across the range .
Eg on my 208 ( all manufactured for the IT market remember- no export markets ) there’s a front fog switch wired up , but no lights fitted .The plugs are there .
I fitted some DRL s .Just bolted on to existing mounting bracket and plugged into the existing harness sat there .
Also radios were dealer fit . Wether the speaker wires with redundant sockets are sat in the doors remains to be seen ?
Point is the loom / harness make made a one size fits all and Ferrari fitted it . Image Unavailable, Please Login

as far as I know antenna and loudspeaker were put in all late 208/308 GT4 (Series 2) at the factory.... radio was an option....

p/w was also standard with Series 2.....

    Thank you, Matthias.

So the factory punched the holes in the doors for the speakers, even though there was no radio for a radio-delete car?

What about Series I? I have a radio-delete car and there was never a hole made for the antenna. Should I still have the antenna switch and speaker holes (very early Series I, #35)

yes, they punched the holes in the doors too...
for very early cars like yours loudspeaker and antenna was an option, if you don`t have an antenna hole, nor the perforation in the doors for the loudspeakers, your car might didn`t have this option...
    (but that`s very rare....)
option price in the USA was USD 139,- called "radio wiring, loudspeakers & antenna"
    #035 = #09946?

#08004. I have been told this is either #025 or #035, Italian delivery (1974). I am not sure which is correct, perhaps you could confirm? Thank you.

is actually 29th Euro model build....
it`s possible it didn`t have the "radio wiring, loudspeakers & antenna" option...
on an US model very unlikely....

    GT4 Friends,

I think the cars all came with cheap speakers installed. Here are some pages from the 1974 parts manual which I created from my original book which took me forever if anyone wants a copy let me know I also have a 1976 book! Anyway it shows the wiring for the radio, speakers and antenna and the perforated holes in the door etc.

Are we in agreement there seems to a common loom for 208 and 308 ?

I don't doubt there was a common loom, but since that is dated December 1974, it might be more relevant to the 1975 model year. In any event, it was published substantially later than my build, so it could have been one of the many small changes made throughout production.

The diagram does not indicate if it is for US, Euro, Japan, etc.?. If for US, it would correlate to Matthias' earlier post about all US cars being configured with speaker option. Even "Euro" is a broad category, as there were differences for German market, French market, etc. Early Series I Italian cars for instance had no mirrors, and that is not something one can find in a parts diagram. It's just the way they did it.

My car looks like it never came with foglights and has a one-piece front end more similar to a 208. Very rare, but I have seen other Euro examples like this. Once I get it to paint, hopefully next week, and we start stripping off the layers, we can investigate this area more closely and determine whether or not it originally had the removable lower valance, and if it was just sealed up when imported and converted to meet US DOT. I doubt it though. I think it came without the fogs. We shall see.

Early 74 models may have the antenna ( when equipped with the option radio ) in the roof ( like mine #09760 , pic. courtesy of Alberto Mantovani) Image Unavailable, Please Login

There's only three parts books in the car is history the 1974, 1976, 1979. Based on my experience the 74 book covers earlier cars and the 76 but covers cars from 1975 on with a 1979 book covering the later chassis #. Oddly the GT4 service manual covered all years including the early 308 GTB/S models...

Did not buy the car at factory. May be the Dealer (Crepaldi) did fit it . The roof antenna was quite usual back then on Fiat, Alfa Romeo or Lancia cars prior of the introduction of electric activated antennas by Mercedes Benz and BMW . Even some 208 GT4 cars did have the roof antenna

Hi Cal, my car is also early 1974 and from Crepaldi. I have the same aerial on the roof. I suppose since many radios during this time were dealer-installed items, it is the way Crepaldi did their installations instead of cutting a hole into the body for the electric antenna.

I am curious if you have the toggle switch for the electric antenna installed in the center console?

    Thank you.

I believe the antenna was dealer installed if a radio was chosen. I had three Alfa Montreal’s, one has no radio or antenna, the other two had radios, one antenna on the right rear fender, the other on the roof as show on the blue Dino. My Dino has it on top of the right rear fender.

when you get the car please check the door panel material, if it`s still the original material....
at the picture it looks like leather on the door cards.... but maybe I´m wrong....
    this set-up doesn`t make sence...
    very interesting...
