This entire token system/no testing ban is ridiculous. Ferrari did well considering this limitation. MB has dominated F1 because of the this. Does anyone really think It would have taken Honda all these years to finally become competitive absent these restrictions?

That said long term F1 is a dying series as the world moves towards fully electric cars and it will be a matter of time before F1 and FE merge. I’m not talking tomorrow of course but eventually governments, particularly in Europe, will start banning ICE racing events, etc. just as they’ve begun outlawing production of ICE for road cars.

They all agreed to this turbo hybrid era rules and regulations.....what a fiasco it has been.

I don´t think any government will ban ICE racing: it will just die by its own when manufacturers won´t be able to get any useful advertising from it because they´re not selling ICE anymore. It will remain as a rarity outside of the mainstream, like horse or yacht racing.

Let's see if this pans out......

According to today‘s issue of Corriere Della Sera, journalist Giorgio Terruzzi writes that Jean Todt could return to Ferrari as a super-consultant [similar role as Niki Lauda had at Mercedes]. According to Corriere, there were already several talks between Todt & Elkann.

"Jean Todt could return to Ferrari in 2022. His mandate as president of the FIA expires on Dec 17, he expressed an unexpected idea to Elkann: to return to Ferrari. The two have talked about it several times in recent months after a first contact at Le Mans this August"

"The hypothesis is that Jean Todt plays the role of super-consultant able to increase the political-sporting weight, lightening the commitment of the president & supporting in this sense also Binotto, with whom he maintained an excellent relationship."

[..] "In short, the idea of returning to Ferrari is understandable and even plausible. We will see if it will be a mutual convenience, also because the name Todt is heavy [past of Ferrari / present FIA]."

2022 is the first proper rules re-set in a long long time and none of the teams have a clue where they stand. I don’t think the wdc winner will be the team with the most powerful engine - and relatively speaking, the PU department is reasonable stable year on year, so there is likely to be more convergence between the various PUs on the grid. It’s clear that the aero and chassis guys are the ones that will make or break Ferraris prospects this year. Sadly, none of them are Adrian Newey, so let’s hope the supercomputers are, well, super enough to make up the difference!

I’m an optimist at heart, so I’m looking forward to a phenomenal 2022 with Ferrari, RB, Merc and McLaren all battling for the wdc. That would be a year to remember - obviously even better if Ferrari win it!

A competitive Ferrari would be already good to my taste.

To me it just looks like Todt smells a few million easy € available for the taking, adding no real value.

If we’re going retro I’d rather have Brawn back.

There’s only one Newey yet Merc have won without him and RBR have not (yet :)) since 8 or however many years ago, so let’s see.

Teams in play next year? Add Alpine to the list according to Ocon. And based on their performance this year and the fact that the cars from Enstone (whatever name they race under) never fail to surprise, I tend to agree.

Todt could be a perfect combination with Binotto.
Binotto is a good engineer but weak on the political side.
Todt is afraid by NOTHING and we desperately need this kind of guy..

Have to wonder if Todt still has it above his neck line.

I'm not sure what Todt would bring - other than access to better designers - sponsors, and some political insider stuff? even then Ferrari will be capped on what it can spend.... I fear this is Italian logic for nostalgia vs. hard work.

Like the Mercedes logic to bring Lauda on board?

Pretty illogical to believe everyone at Ferrari will just sit on their thumbs because Todt is there as a consultant.

I suppose if that’s the case, they will have kissed and made up if they are truly discussing bringing him on, no? Also not sure he’d want to join an organization if only to sabotage them.

This undated pic seems to indicate they’re on pretty good terms:

You do realize that Todt's son, Nicholas Todt, is Leclerc's manager.

Binotto says Todt coming to Ferrari is purely speculation and no talks have surfaced.
