the conversion cars will go higher - there are only so many cars that will be converted. its like a house, yes u can build one for cheaper but if u want it today you pay a premium. and with some people being priced out of the conversion market because they dont wan to pay 35k, thats good for the cars that have been converted.

It's not only the cost. It's also the lead time. From what I understand, Art has a THREE YEAR backlog already. So if you want to convert your car, you're going to have to plunk down a hefty deposit and start waiting. If the idea is to flip the car, good freakin luck with that.

I watch all the Ferrari auctions on BaT, including this one. I don't think there was any chicanery on this one. The winner simply had the Devil may care Hammer. It's called Fun money and he had bags of it! This was a special car. This was a 1 of 1 car. And so it goes.

Merlin was the underbidder. Yeah, they're a dealer, but they also have a private collection. As do I, and I'm a dealer.

I've bought many cars on BaT for my personal collection. Paid up for them as well. People always accuse me of being a dealer, just flipping cars. Well, I am a dealer, and that's what dealers do; flip cars. But if you're going to successfully flip a car, you have to pay below market. Buying on BaT is not paying below market.

Which is why I also sell a lot of cars on BaT. :)

INCREDIBLE WHAT THE OLD GATED SHIFTERS NOW BRING! I sure miss driving the F40 and 512 M with their clankity-clack shifters-- so pure!

Irony: in 2002, I put down a deposit for a 3 pedal coupe successor to the 360. It was the age of flipping and there were many buyers ahead of me but all them wanted paddles. Ferrari sold paddles and sticks as distinct models so I got the first stick allocated August, 2005. People who ordered 2 pedal spiders were able to flip them for as much as 40K extra. The dealer made no effort to buy my car. "No one wants sticks" I was told. So I drove away happy anyway. I still have the car. Recently, during a drive, it suddenly struck me that the stick is actually worth 6 figures and that it is also worth more than the rest of the car! It's been a terrific, reliable car. I'm not selling mainly because I don't know what I would buy instead. I suspect I'm not alone.

Exactly and well said below. It was not your typical F430 and really not a comparison to others. Last year, very low miles, multiple options, a factory gated 6 speed, in black no less. Find another like that in an ‘09.

The Buyer (collector) knew exactly what he was bidding on. BaT is NOT a Buyers market website IMO. The “soft close” auction style allows another buyer 2 minutes to decide if they want to bid it up. Unlike EBay where the last second is just that. It also runs for a week or more giving everyone time to ask questions and do their due diligence.

I sold an 2003 360 Modena that EAG did a 6 speed gated conversion on and it sold much higher that I had hoped for. It sold a few months back for $130,360.

If your looking to sell I would recommend BaT.

    That's awesome on your 360

It's great that one of the benefits of the conversion market is now there are 360 and F430 6speed driver cars on the market.

If I had an original gated, I'd be afraid to take it out!

When I considered getting a Ferrari my 1st 'must have' criteria was gated 6 speed.

    Now, I have this car.

    I am a total believer.

Every time I look at it, drive it, think about it, look at the pictures on my screen saver, tell people about it..what it's worth, or the value, never even enters my mind

Agreed, my Australian delivered (not UK / Jap import and locally complianced) 6-speed 360 has doubled in the last 24 months to about AU$220,000 conservatively priced and there's 2 available here online now for more (AU$245k and AU$265k - both imports). There were only about 40 Australian originally delivered through dealers, 6-speed Modenas in existence - so not really looking to sell yet . I've bought a couple of cars on BaT and had them shipped here (it's good for American muscle, older bikes and older Porsches - all very big in Australia) and found generally the sellers to be nice, private and very knowledgeable about their vehicles. Whether this 430 brings up prices on other 6-speed models or not, if there's collusion happening between BaT sellers, it will only come back to bite them when the buyer realizes and lets everyone else know.

Is yours a gated 6 speed ? If so, I hate you. I hate all of you with manuals. Actually, I only hate you with manual coupes, Spiders don't interest me. No floppy top for me, thanks.. I need maximum strength for track days.

I still have a chance this year to convert mine to manual, and it will happen one way or the other. :)

I inquired at these guys, and they have the kit in stock, 25k.

    HOME | Gated Six

I also emailed them for installation location and the Jersey location which is closer to me had no issues taking my car in , say, February. The labor for gearbox conversion is 10k , nothing else done... BUT , if you plan to change clutch components, bearings, etc, it will rack up to 40k without a problem. Hence my reluctance to do it right now... Looking for cheaper options :)

Once I have my garage build, I have no issue buying the kit and doing it on ramps. I have no rush....
