Something very wrong when the engine cover is much better looking than the engine. Would never have imagined anyone saying this about Ferrari but here we are. When they go electric the cover will be sealed to the owner to spare us.

coming from an Audi the interior was par for the course. hard to improve on that. originally i delayed ordering one because i hated the back 3/4 on the car. then after looking at it some more i relented. placed order. saw it in the flesh. i love it. rwd will take some getting used to. i track my cars so that will be an adventure.

I was quite surprised at how beautiful the 296 was in person. Love the interior as well and it seemed like there was more leg room than the 488. I’m still resisting the electrification. But, I’m sure at some time in the future, I’ll have no choice but to give in. My worry is now with the hybrid cars, the technology is moving so fast, these cars will be completely obsolete in 4 years and the resale values will be very low. Much like buying an iPhone.

These look like the spring loaded cam chain tensioners that I have on my Honda race bike. They wear out and there was an issue with them not applying pressure under high speed throttle chop. The recommendation was to replace with manually adjustable version with threaded locknut. The compromise was that you would need to manually adjust as the chain stretched but was thought to be less risky.

Did you try passenger seat also? We’re those racing seats or standard? I’m hoping for better leg room thank F8 on passenger side…

Well, if this becomes the mainstream mid-engine model for the next 10 years (i.e. 458-488-F8 style), then it's a real pity.

At the suggested price level (350-400k) it is so much far beyond my personal estimate of what a V6 hybrid is intrinsically worth that unfortunately another potential European sale will go to another happy Chinese customer.

Much wiser people than me are making very important decisions at Ferrari HQ, but still - this is not the design trajectory that makes a 42-year old guy with a 550, F12 and a GT3 happy to spend his money on a new toy.

I like the SF90 design a lot, it is purposeful, wide, long, supercar-money-worth

Roma and the 296 at the same time - well, not really sure. Especially with nothing to look at in the engine bay. Could for all practical purposes not spend the money on the glass cover and go the Porsche way - just a hatch to fill oil and cooler.

But while external design is subjective, what is somewhat still puzzling is the all-electronic dashboard and all-haptic steering wheel.

While OK for the IPAD generation driving a Tesla on an autopilot, these contraptions have no place in a car which you still sometimes drive fast.

Sony - of all the companies - knows that even a Playstation needs physical buttons and triggers on its gamepads.

Why a sports car manufacturer wants to push this "glide and slide and miss the right virtual button on the wheel every other time you try to push it" on us is something beyond rational.

I know I have little right to grumble - but but - I took the delivery of a 2021 Porsche GT3 last summer and drove it, and drove it on the track - and with its puny 510hp - I could not be more happy for just a tiny bit over 200k.

WIth all the very physical buttons and PDK lever and an analogue tach meter, and not an in-your-face 15-inch dashboard showing me the weather forecast while I take a tight corner.

PS And the base seats - both Roma and 296 - well, they might as well be light and comfy - but visually - really - one needs to try better. Everyone (BMW, Audi, MB, Porsche) - makes their sporty model seats look much-much better. And I am not talking about the carbon buckets.

Not sure what you are talking about, SF90 you see nothing in the engine bay either as the engine is very low

Screen and steering wheel are the same as in SF90

Besides there are different models for different uses and tastes... if you like SF90 then buy SF90

Everybody is downsizing, World we live in.... Ferrari top model is V8 not V12 who would have ever thought

But I very much assume that if you drive 296 you would think its V8... people are stuck in an old paradigm...cyclinder count doesn't equate one to one to performance and driving experience anymore... technology has changed things....

    Of course everyone their own

Agree on non carbon seats... they got better in SF90 and 296... but not there yet

Saw the car at Ferrari of Houston on Monday. Quite beautiful in the flesh--very organic looking to my eye. The EU regs apparently mandate that cars in the cities in 2025 must have hybrid capability (maybe driven in electric mode?). Ferrari is positioning itself for compliance with the 296. As here, the progressives have cowed the politicians to adopt green regulations. Sad.

No I did not crawl into the passenger side. The seats were standard electric seats. I don’t remember thinking the seats were great..like my 488 standard seats which I really do not like at all…

Well, we just have to live with engine down sizing for upcoming sports cars. The only way to get around is spending millions of special models

Before I made the decision to order the 296, I did consider STO. However, I personally don't buy the idea of spending considerately large amount of manufacture mark up to get a "track version" of a performance car, especially the Huracan platform has been around for so long. The fact that there is no room for me to pack reasonable amount of gears and clothes to go track day also turn me down.

Do we consider the Assetto Fiorano an equivalent of Scuds/Speciales/Pistas or is it only some kind of fancy option, and we assume that a barebones version may see the light in a couple of years from now?

They have not said. So we don't know.

My interpretation: Your first thought is most likely correct: The Assetto Fiorano is the "Speciale" model. But now you can order at the beginning. Thus, taking us away from the era of buy the "standard" car to then get the "special series" car.

Commentary: If true, I like it. The old way was getting a bit tired. And it also implied there was something not so special about the original model. Every Ferrari is special in my opinion. Also, the competition were doing this more and more, and, thus, it seemed every other week there was some new "special" model- as good friend @ttforcefed would say- when they are all "special" models- then none are really that special. So, if my interpretation is correct, then I would say this is a good move by Ferrari. Now you can order your dream spec right from the beginning.

However: I have been wrong before and this is just my take. No one knows what Ferrari will do except Ferrari. And that seems to me to be an often evolving process.

Suggestion: the only car advice I've ever gotten that holds up in all circumstances: buy what you love and can afford.

Maserati is claiming 1,200 hp for its electric GranTurismo. It will also electrify the MC20.

Currently I see the 296 sitting above the MC20 with its price and horsepower delta. But, if Maserati pumps up the horsepower and has a lighter car from use of its carbon tub, I wonder how this will play into the dynamics between the two cars and companies.

Could we see an MC20 with SF90 power, and 296 pricing while being lighter than both?

What you're saying makes sense, I figure there might be an update a few years later with some optimized stuff. Batteries will probably evolve a whole deal by then, so might have something changing in that area (weight or power).

But it's like constantly waiting for the new iPhone : there will always be something better, so at some point, it's about the now. Come on, Ferrari, release that GTS already !!
