Sorry to hear about your experience with the FF and Ferrari in general. This dealer you bought the car from sounds dreadful, which is still common when it comes to supercar dealers. The Ferrari dealership that dealt with the brakes was also particularly un-helpful. Hopefully it won't deter you from getting a Ferrari again sometime in the future.

As an additional point, and by no means to be a shot at you Alex, but this is why you really need to get a good independent PPI. Never trust the person selling you a car, always verify with a third party that has no interest in the transaction. It won't save you from everything, but it can save you from a massive headache. In my experience when you see lots of little things crop up on a PPI, that can tell you that the car may not have been cared for very well and other bigger issues may be looming.

Good luck with the auction, fortunately the used car market has only gotten hotter and hotter. And there's been lots of positive reviews again on the FF, leading to a renewed demand for the car. In my area FF's tend to not be on the market for more than a couple days.

Just out of interest, does anyone actually believe that a PPI would have thrown up the disc issues or the fact that the PTU was on the way out?

My guess is some cosmetic advisories maybe (rusty disc bolts, bodywork) which would have been presumably promised as a closer by the dealer for the sale so doubt Alex would have been much better off. I had very similar, years ago with a 2 year old, 20K miles Porsche 993 bought from Stratsone (a very reputable dealer). I Paid for a hefty amount for an extremely thorough 3rd party specialist inspection which it sailed through. Two weeks into ownership there was smoke spewing into the rear cabin presumably due to an oil leak somewhere. The dealership flatly refused to accept it was a serious issue and after 3 visits / 6 months for 'Repairs' back and forwards to them I ended up threatening legal action again Porsche UK who supplied the vehicle. We ended up settling and I was out of pocket about 5K but thankful the whole miserable experience was over. I stayed away from Porsche for about 15 years after that but moved on to much better and brigher things.

My feeling in this case is that the dealership GVE were on a very small profit margin for this car and made sure that the episode didn't hit them, regardless of the terrible customer experience.

These things are supposed to be the chariots to our dreams. When they leave a bitter taste in your mouth, better to cut your losses and move on IMO. All praise to Alex on this, ultimately whoever ends up with the FF is going to get one sorted car.

Would the PPI turn up the PTU issue? Unlikely. Would it have highlighted all the other issues? More than likely. Like I said, it’s no guarantee, but when you spot a car with lots of ‘little things’ don’t ignore it. It can be a sign of bigger things to come. As someone ‘in the industry’ all too often I find people willing to gloss over small things because they see them as no big deal when it comes to their dream car. More often than not in these scenarios I’ve seen it get a lot worse, or you just get nickel and dimed to death.

I think Alex admirably did everything he could to fix up the car before reselling. That’s being a straight up good guy, and I commend him for it. I hope it leads to him getting a great auction result. My goal is not to add insult to injury, it’s for people to read his post and be warned of the dangers of buying a car with numerous things needing to be done.

Sure and in now way was I suggesting that. My post was merely to highlight the fact that sometimes, just sometimes, with all the due diligence in the world, you end up with a turkey. In these circumstances, where you really need to rely on the dealership that sold it to you, they, sometimes become the greatest evil because that is where profit meets service.

You’ve hit the nail on the head here. Alex could’ve been lucky and bought a great car cheaply. But GVE’s reputation is such that if there were problems with the car then he was certain to be in for a rough ride.

It's a real shame this experience for Alex as we all know how good these cars are and he's not managed to be able to really enjoy that. Fair enough to sell and move on but I'm so sure that if he had had the chance, he'd love the car. Shame on GVE.

Do all FFs have Carbon Ceramic brakes, or were they an option?

Hi everyone. Thank you so much for your support, comments and sympathy, especially in the last week or so.

As you know its not been a great experience for me and i take onboard what many of you say about external inspections before purchase - Yes, hindsight is a wonderful thing, but id have thought from a supercar dealer i wouldnt have though I needed to, but we live and learn. For me it was a dream purchase and a massive step up from my RS3. It is an amazing machine and oddly the mostly comfortable car ive ever owned whilst sitting under the radar and being vaguely practical, all with the most amazing noise i will ever hear in a car! The only downside of the car itself, for me, is its just a bit big and a pain in the bum to manoeuvre - front camera would have helped and rear camera in the centre screen, but other than that, whats not to love!?? But, for me the magic is long gone and itll never recover enough to warrant keeping it as my daily, and Ive now got way too much money tied up in it. So onwards......

    2012 FERRARI FF (collectingcars.com)

Will see what happens, but whoever gets it, gets a car that on my word has nothing wrong with it (at all, that im aware of) and that should give them the trouble free joy I dreamed of

Thanks again everyone for all your support and words of wisdom, its truly appreciated and thanks for welcoming me into the community.

    Alex

All Ferraris from 2008 onward have carbon ceramics. So yes, they will all have them.

What a ride this thread was! Sorry to hear the struggles mate, hopefully you find something else that gets you going to keep as a daily and best of luck with the auction.

This certainly has been a good learning thread though for those of us who keep looking for their FF, so many ppis come back with a bunch of small things and it makes you wonder

I’m sorry to hear that it didn’t work out for you. You’ve described the FF’s attributes perfectly and it’s a shame that the car didn’t have a chance to get under your skin in the end.

Good luck with whatever’s next in your car journey.

Wow. That can quickly become a big percentage of the depreciated value of these cars.

My 365 Boxer brakes look cheap.

Sold for £85500. Considerably cheaper than anything on auto trader, even cars with way more miles or less spec or dreadful colour combos. Despite all the work. In a crazy car market I’ve managed to loose about £14k. Those f***ing brakes, just so many awkward questions - every FF will have corroded bolts unless they’ve had new discs, and having some made at £2k is cheaper than new CCMs but apparently that’s not good enough. I am properly upset, I really thought we’d get to £95k ish given a refurbed PTU etc etc. So long Ferrari, saving the biggest blow to last.

Sorry to hear that, sounds like the auction house did you no favors. Seems like a pretty low price for an FF that has had a lot of servicing done on it. I don't know the market for FFs in the UK, but I'd imagine the buyer got a steal of a deal.

Sorry to hear about the crappy result. I’m not sure that there’s much appetite for buying supercars the week before Christmas. Couldn’t you have set the reserve at 95k?

This thread has been a real up and down.

You’ve really persevered with it Alex and done an excellent job by the sounds of it. Sorry you didn’t get the result you were after. I think t was worth more than the final price.

I will potentially be needing a set of those bolts. Who manufactured the for you?

    I particularly liked this bit;

“THIS IS A PRIVATE SALE BUT I MAY TAKE A P/X AND A FAMILY MEMBER OWNS A FINANCE COMPANY SO FINANCE IS AVAILABLE , I CAN ALSO ADD A WARRANTY AT BUYERS COST AND THEY ARE VERY COMPETITIVE.”

So, he’s operating as a dealer but because the V5 is in his rather than his business name, it counts as a private sale? Pull the other one, it’s got bells attached.

    FF61 FER

I’m putting the registration in the thread in case someone sees the eBay advert and decides to do a quick search on the history of the car.

Precisely that - no doubt something to do with how he purchased the car to avoid taxation.

Good move @ANOpax I was considering doing the same thing
