William welcome back!
Absolutely ! I welcome a different WDC. Pity Max' first title will be tainted by controversy not of his doing. Abu Dhabi 2021 was a bad day for F1 and its followers. When I think the FIA was concerned about flexing wings all year long, when the rot in is their camp!
Thanks. Been banned for a while, and then decided to see the season out before coming back. In the meantime, I watched a lot of GT3 racing on Youtube. I have great expectations for next year with the new formula. I hope the FIA will put its house in order and remove Masi from his position.
Definitely not guaranteed! To be fair, everyone assumed Lewis would at least try to make a race of it instead of wilting to the outside of turn 5, despite every pass the entire day happening on the inside and Perez giving him a clinic. There was no DRS so Max wasn't going to pass him on the straights. Maybe Hammy was too busy whining on the radio to defend properly?
Pssssttt you have a crystal ball? Maybe you should teach car 44 and toto the sport then, they didnt pit out of arrogance . There was no guarantee Max would pass, none. So I dont know the sport? and you are the F1 knowledge base?
No, it has been my position for a long time. Maybe you have missed my rants about the lack of consistancy regarding the enforcement of track limits, for a example. The Belgian weekend raised doubts about Masi's competence to administer F1: calling 2 laps behind a safety car a "race" was making a mockery of F1. The way race incidents were dealt with and penalties dished out all through the year was questionable at best, stupid at worst. What happened at Abu Dhabi, where the finish was managed to provoke a reversal of situation, was the cherry on the cake. I have no problem with Max winning the championship this year; him and Red Bull have been consistantly top players. If you go back through my posts from the begining of this season, you will read that I predicted him winning this year. It's good for F1 to have a new champ, although Mercedes is will winning the WCC.
I find that the best arguments I have read on this subject come from people who present their ideas focusing on the incident at hand, how it was handled, and the validity of the decisions taken by the FIA. ALL of the arguments I have found so far that include personal preferences regarding teams or drivers, justifications for what happened based on previous actions, or attacks on opposing views claiming driver favoritism are the thinnest and least considered positions. Most hinge on what one person said or on a focused interpretation of one word in the rulebook rather than on how the various sections interact with one another. Under these circumstances if you look hard enough you will see anything you want to. I re-iterate that who won the race and the championship is secondary here. It is the process by which AND the final decision that is under scrutiny. I will add that not for a moment do I think there is a conspiracy or that Masi acted to favor any one team. I do believe however that he fixated on wishing a particular outcome and erroneously applied the rules to achieve that outcome. Of course competing team bosses yelling in his ear at decision time did not help nor did a ticking clock. I don't think I found one person express that it is OK for team bosses to talk to the Race Director during the race and for sure this will be corrected in the future. That said Masi did make a decision and it is THAT decision that is being scrutinized.
A) No. I don't need one to see what's right in front of me. B) Why would I? They don't need any "teaching". A second in, and 8 WCCs, in the last 9 (of 12) years? I think it's doing alright without any advice. C) I stated that in the post you quoted..."If Max and Lewis didn't collide," D) Apparently not what you know; more how you don't process what biased knowledge you do have. (And your trolling.....'won't touch that. ) E) Nope.
Speak for yourself.....Jim was gone before Michael was born. (honestly, I thought so 'til his season was taken away...he was realllly "special" to me then...) I wouldn't count my chickens these days, auto racing becoming the "show" that it has become these days.
As fun as it is to bicker, This is really the heart of the matter. Well stated. I believe the even if Masi would have come to the same decision he did and the outcome the same, what really triggered people was the seeming announcement of not letting cars un-lap themselves to then change it and say oh yes they can. At the emotionally high point he set an expectation and then changed it.
That's why I think Masi isn't up to the job. Too much hesitancy and "flip-flopping" in his decisions all through the season. That became so obvious in laps 56,57 and 58 at Abu Dhabi. Personally, I will never forget his lack of leadership during the 2021 Belgian GP weekend.
There’s obviously some info that none of us are privy to that contributed largely to his changing of intent. I think he may just need some more man power in there as Crofty pointed out.
The FIA finds itself in two problems: 1. If they fire Masi it is essentially a public admission of guilt. If anything that bad call guaranteed his job. 2. 'If' the FIA were to be found at fault, there is no provision in the rules as to how that error would be corrected. Just saying 'we'll ignore the last lap' is fraught with its own problems opening them up to all kinds of new scrutiny.
There are no legitimate grounds to dismiss Masi on. The only thing he is guilty of is applying policy in a messy manor. Perhaps Messy Masi is a good nickname for him. Most of the uproar as you pointed out is simply noise in the system eg Mercedes throwing a tantrum that they can’t tell mom and dad what to do, Mercedes fans butt hurt Elton didn’t win.
