    It seems to me a person could retrofit a motech ecu after these cars get over 25 yo.. and in many places only require a safety check.. vs emissions check.

    That’s an interesting, if not sobering thought. For some, that’s only three years from now!
    However, California (of course) only exempts vehicles 1975 and older, unless it’s an historic vehicle over 25 years old, with “historic plates” and only driven for exhibition.
    “(f) As used in this section, a vehicle is of historic interest if it is collected, restored, maintained, and operated by a collector or hobbyist principally for purposes of exhibition and historic vehicle club activities.”
    I think my local club needs to have more historic vehicle club activities”!
