Was bored watching TV the other day and threw in my Grand Prix DVD just for fun - Made me think it might be a fun thread/poll as to favorite racing movie of all time - The three in the poll all have Ferrari's in them so within the scope of this forum - Have fun :)

Grand Prix is too long and has too much drama and not enough racing. Le Mans is almost all racing and has awesome footage, especially if you're a Porsche fan. And it also stars Steve McQueen so that clinches it :p

Grand Prix is so much better than LeMans. I don’t think people understand that LeMans was made years later to emulate Grand Prix. I enjoy LeMans however McQueen had it made because he realized he really F’d up declining the Grand Prix role. He had the director even imitate certain feel and cinematography of Grand Prix. Also the production of Grand Prix having actually traveled with the F1 series for an entire season. It’s absolutely the pinnacle of a racing film. This is without even mentioning the ground breaking editing.

"The Art of Racing in The Rain". More about human compassion than racing, but a deeply touching and inspirational story.

No one mentioned the Fast and the Furious?

    jk

Le Mans is clearly the standard by which all others are measured. Its a classic. Rush is very good too.
There is an Italian made for TV movie about the life of Enzo Ferrari, I enjoyed it as well.

Ford vs Ferrari is my favorite

    Rush was good

Saw the one with James Garner recently- Good racing scenes but the movie was lousy

Can I also get a 2nd vote for Talledega Nights? Shake & Bake

So there is a movie called "Winning" with Paul Newman that I recall seeing a LONG time ago - focused on Indianapolis/Indy Car racing. As I recall it was pretty good but have not for the life of me been able to find it - Interestingly enough it looks like it is now available on Amazon - Just wonder if anyone recalls this movie and if it is worthy of mentioning? As I recall it is (IMHO) not in the league of the three in the poll or FvF but was pretty good. No Ferrari's thought I don't believe :)

I think one of the many things that impressed me with the making of Grand Prix was the fact that (I could have some details wrong so forgive me if so) to get the soundtrack authentic they had drivers driving various race cars with various engines driving the cars around various tracks but shifting from memory of the track in the movie - Example: some driver driving a Ferrari F1 car around Willow Springs but shifting the car from memory as if he was driving Monaco - then when they synched up the soundtrack with the move it matched perfectly - pretty amazing for it's time and shows the talent of drivers of that era IMHO.

As the OP I am leaving my opinion out but your points are certainly valid :)
