355 Brake Pump not working with engine running...any ideas?

The relay doesn't click with the engine running though it will de-activate the running pump (when the pump decides to run with the engine that is). Push it back in and it will re-activate the pump which is why I'm circling around this relay and the wire connections around the area.

During times that the pump doesn't run, fiddling with the relay and the associated area triggers the pump back into action. Which is why I'm suspecting the vibrations from driving might be knocking the connection somewhere astray. Still can't put a finger to exactly where.

 

I had the stereo removed since I don't use it plus nothing beats the 355's wail. So that's possibly how it ended up there unknowingly. And as u pointed out, that area is the suspect area for a wiring issue.

 

If one doesn't want to spend $100 for a relay, the yellow relay can be replaced with a standard 5-pin relay that has "87a" as the middle pin ("changeover" relay) with addition of two external small diodes as shown (using extract from Ian's diagram).

The black relay can also be replaced using a standard 4-pin relay with addition of two diodes as above except that the in-line diode should be in the wires to "85" and in the opposite orientation.

After all, this is how Jaguar did it for their Teves ABS systems. And they did not have the "Yellow/Orange" relay to disable the ABS during cranking but it was always active in key positions 1 and 2.

 

Guys, thanks for all your help but the electrical stuff is beyond me such that she's in the shop with the ex-ferrari dealers. I'll let the pros handle it as she started giving issues like not cranking after a drive + shutdown? So the issue might be with the key barrel amongst other things.

Will report back once she's all sorted out

Hi all... very useful thread here. I had my Teves brakes pump being intermittent and I'd lose the brakes when driving sometimes without warning. I would have to quickly recycle the ignition and the pump would always fire up again luckily. I also had a constant ABS warning light light and suspension light, the brake warning low pressure light would come on sometimes. With the help of Ferrari Chat and especially this thread, I narrowed the problem down to the Orange relay. I can only think that there may be a small intermittent current going to the relay when the car engine is running perhaps from the ignition barrel, breaking the circuit to to the brake pump. I removed the Orange relay and bridged the terminals 30 and 87a as described above with a single wire with two spade connectors. Everything is now 100% fixed, I have no random brake pump cutouts, the ABS is working and I have the active suspension back! The brake pump will potentially now run whilst I am cranking the engine but this is a minimal drain on battery power and I am more than happy to live without the hazardous Orange relay. I would even go so far as to suggest to all 355 Teves brake car owners to remove and bridge the orange relay as a safety precaution.
Before diagnosing the orange relay being the problem, I changed the Accumulator (from a Jaguar specialist in UK) and the Teves screw in pressure switch. Neither of which were necessary I believe. Note.. the ABS coloured relays are no longer available from Ferrari or anywhere.

 

I do not know how it is on the 355 but on the 348 the ABS light will come "on" at ignition in "ACC" and the ABS pump will run if the pressure in the accumulator is below the threshold. The ABS light will stay "on" and will only go "off" when the pump achieves the required pressure. In such cases, I just don't crank the engine before the ABS light goes "off" which makes the Orange relay redundant. I think that there is also advise somewhere in the Ferrari Owner's (Technical) Manual to wait for the ABS pump to replenish fluid pressure before starting the engine.
