Don’t get me started on Novitec. Capristo’s OBD Wizard worked, but it clears it after the fact and requires a restart. Looking at the Fabspeed cats at first glance, I’d bet they’ll throw a code. I’ve had 3 different types of 200 cell cats on the car, and the only two working solutions that worked were a software tune to ignore the CEL completely, and Fabspeed O2 spacers.
Kline 200 Cell is 100% OEM drop-in, which is great. All the cats I’ve seen (Novitec, Akrapovic, Kline, and Capristo) are OEM fit on the turbo size for obvious reasons. They use the OEM v-clamps without issue. The problem is the downpipe outlet where it meets the muffler inlet. Kline and Capristo have OEM outlet diameters which allows them to not only fit the factory exhaust, but allows for mix and match with other mufflers without issue. Novitec and Akrapovic do something dopey, which is increase the outlet diameter so they’ll guarantee that they work with their mufflers.
How would I get a set of O2 spacers for the 100 cell for the TDF? Do you think this would work?? May the Horse be with you
A lot of shops won't touch O2 spacers in California. Make some calls before you order. You might be better off with an OBD solution.
Picked up the Pista from the dealer with the Novitec Inconcel Valveless exhaust. As I pulled away int he parking lot, my initial reaction was "wow, that is MUCH different." The pitch climbs in tessitura quite quickly. It is more full and centered in the mid range. Around 3000rpm is a resonance and tone center that howls like a Ferrari should. Overall, I am impressed with just the bolt on exhaust. I will drive more this weekend, but the sound is FAR more interesting than just having the valves open, and the aural pleasure across the rev range seems to change more in pitch range and tonal center.
Sounds great! I found that the flat plane crank of the Pista is very flat…. So this is a great result! May the Horse be with you
Novitec Inconel X pipe. Not pushing, just cruising through a tunnel. You can hear the overtones and improved pitch. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CbMJUMiD7Zl/?utm_medium=copy_link
Which exhaust company offers exhaust with 200 cell cats? Will 200 cell cats throw cel? I currently own about aventador s roadster and thinking of trading it in for a pista. I love the looks of pista but the sound department is severely malnourished compared to my aventador.
The X pipe helps immensely. Capristo, Kline, Fabspeed, among others I'm sure. Codes have been thrown with 200, but some haven't had them AFAIK.
I have a full Novitec Inconel system on mine and I would argue it sounds ‘better’ than most AV’s I’ve heard I had same reservations as you when I was looking at Pista but happy to say it prob the best car I’ve ever owned now. I also have GT3 and 3RS with JCR for context.
Thanks for the reassurance. So a stock 488 pista exhaust has valves and it opens and closes when you switch from sport to race modes on steering manettino? I believe that's how the stock exhaust was set on my old 458. So if I go with an aftermarket exhaust with no flaps, exhaust would be loud at all times? FYI, I also have JCR's exhaust and Inconel cats on my 991.2 turbo and I love it
Not quite, the difference in sport and race is pretty minimal as far as valves go. I believe the valves start open on a Pista, close at 2000rpm and open around 3100 I believe, and they close on throttle lift. If you get the valve controller, you can have them always open, and it is better, but the sound is still a bit uninspiring. Adding the X pipe without cats raised the pitch, gave it a howl that it was missing, and added a much more dynamic sound all over.
