That can be true for any part of the car.

I simply think that the weight of the paint has a very minimal incidence (if any) in the mass distribution on a F1 car.

The individual weight and location of some components have far higher importance during the design of the chassis.

Beside, the aerodynamic forces alter the weight balance significantly, and there are also mass transfert during acceleration and braking.

There is a big difference between static and dynamic weight distribution on a F1.

The advantages of the matte paint must be minimal or all teams would be using it now. Maybe what? One kilo for all the car?

Having said that, at this moment Ferrari needs any possible help, so, oh, well, bring on the matte paint.

TYpically speaking the paint sits fairly high on the car. So if there is a weight saving to be had, of any amount, more weight can then be placed anywhere else in the car, as low down as possible for maximum gains.

If 5 kg can be spared, that's as much as 0.65% on a 2022 F1 car that you're free to use in a preferred spot. FYI, moving a 5kg weight to a static position anywhere in the car is HUGE.

Ferrari F1 chief Mattia Binotto said in December the team was planning to launch its new car in mid-February prior to the start of pre-season testing.

But Ferrari has now formalised its plans by announcing on social media that it will unveil the 2022 model on 17 February, one month from today.

    One month to go…

This is a perfect example of how you will argue anything without knowing what the **** you’re talking about.

Firstly, there is no “mass transfert (sic)” unless you’re referring to the driver’s ****s moving forward and back during braking or accelerating.

Secondly, it’s well known by anyone that understands car design the designer strives to save weight—grams, or fractions of a gram even—on every single part of the car. This is why you see things like bolts with dimpled heads, for example. Bolts that are distributed all around the car.

Ultimately, any weight that needs to be added to bring the car up to the minimum weight can be added very low and in any position (fore/aft) on the car thus indeed affecting weight distribution—static or otherwise.

    Get it?

You know there is always a way to make your point without being insulting.
Bas does it perfectly without resorting to profanities to give his explanations; I find that more convincing.
But most of your posts are condescending, and you come across as a rude individual.

BTW, Sorry to contradict you, but "mass transfer" must exist, since it is mentioned in racing schools and some driving books.
The fore/aft weight balance varies during accelaration and braking, and is commonly called "mass transfer".
I was taught myself as much at the Paul Ricard way back in the 70s; and that was well before aero were talked about.

I won't bother to read your reply. You are on ignore from now on.

Ha-ha, rude. Your rudeness is your apparent prejudiced view of the world.

Hope you get to read this as you may learn something: Force (weight) = Mass x Acceleration.

Gosh, a slanging match over paint…good old FChat.

Personally I doubt the 2022 championship will be decided by a paint finish, but if it is THAT close, then it will be fun.

They are ballisted by screwing tungsten onto the bottom on the chassis, paint is on the top of the chassis, so the pain argument is about CoG.

The Teams spend thousands upon thousands of dollars to save grams in weight. There is a reason for that. Weight and its distribution is everything when racing especially when thousandths of a second can decide a qualifying position and or a final position at the end of the race.

F1 confirms no fans, TV coverage at first pre-season test
    By: Jonathan Noble
    Jan 26, 2022, 6:47 AM
Formula 1 has confirmed the first pre-season test in Barcelona will run behind closed doors, and won’t feature live timing or television coverage.

While the dates for the first two-pre season tests had been agreed several months ago, the details of the runs in Barcelona and Bahrain had still to be finalised.

On Wednesday, however, F1 confirmed that its contract with both venues had been agreed, as it laid out the plans for the two three-days tests.

The Barcelona test will take place from 23-25 February, while the event in Bahrain will run from 10-12 March, ahead of the season opener on 18 March.

While there will be tremendous hype surrounding the first running of 2022 machinery at Barcelona, F1 is treating it as nothing more than a shakedown run – which normally take place as private events.

In a statement explaining the plan, F1’s official website said: “The first outing is a lower key, pre-testing track session at Barcelona on 23-25 February, allowing the teams to shake down their all-new-for-'22 cars for the first time in the same place.

“However, as is traditional with teams’ pre-testing-type events, the running at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya won’t feature live, race-style coverage or live timing, but will include content and best lap times at the end of each day.”

While fans will not be allowed in, media and broadcasters will be in attendance at the event to provide news and updates, and teams will be able to post their own content on social media.

Furthermore, F1 will also distribute their own official content and updates at the end of each day.

While the decision to treat the Barcelona test like a shakedown will disappoint fans who have attended testing at the venue in the past, it is understood that the decision was made after prompting for teams to change pre-season running for 2022.

With the regulations having whittled down preparations to just a single official test from 2021, a push was made to expand running for 2022 because of the change of rules.

That move has been accommodated by adding the private test in Barcelona, which F1 and teams want to treat as nothing more than a shakedown for them to better understand the new car.

F1 wants to treat the second test in Bahrain as the official pre-season event – so it will feature the more regular live timing and television coverage, and will be open to fans.
