Taking our 1975 Maserati Bora to Scandinavia this summer, will travel around Denmark, Sweden and Norway for 7 weeks, mid-June to early August.

Do you have any experiences or "How To" advice?

    Thanks,

Sounds like fun! I asked something similar a while back regarding taking my Ferrari to Italy, but was told it was not worth the effort, and that I was better off renting a similar car there. Not sure if that's different in the Scandinavian countries, but I hope you find a way to make it work. Much more special taking your own car to these places.

Beyond what I already shared with you I have found a German company that specialises in providing insurance to Americans and other non EU people who want to bring their cars or RV's to Europe for touring. Will email them tomorrow morning and share their quotes here.
In 1993 when I took my 924 Turbo from Florida to Europe the shipping company provided me with the insurance to drive in Europe but that has changed.
I recently helped an American family buy a 1980's AMG Merc in Holland, title and insure it in France -where the son is at university- for a year then he will head back to the US with the car. It is now insured here in France as a classic for occasional use. I arranged their shipping when time comes for that.
It is NOT as complicated and costly as people think and in Europe when people see your USA number plates they are really curious, friendly and ask what your itinerary is, I enjoyed that part:)

Art I looked around and found this German company which seems super professional and can provide you exactly what you need in terms of temporary insurance to drive your US registered car in Europe.

Clearly a lot of people do this, NOT as expensive as is hyped, it makes perfect sense. My early 90's experience remains a great memory, I have to dig out the photos.

That insurance recommendation will be very useful, Marc - much appreciated. I'll contact them straight away.

    Thank you,

Would you be able to share that thread? .. my search of any prior discussion came up empty, I'd love to read it just for information if nothing else.

This summer will be well worth it, a full 7 weeks test run for a similar vacation in 2023. And I'm thinking when I've done this once, it will be easy the next time. But until then the process seems like a mixture of government bureaucracy and dark magic.. a recipe for disaster for the uninitiated! LOL.

Looking forward to revisit some Norwegian mountain roads.. Image Unavailable, Please Login

I tried to find the thread, but it was a while ago, I didn't see it in my history. Hopefully someone else will chime in. However, I do remember asking the question, because it was one of my dreams to drive my F430 through Western Europe. BTW WOW! I wish I had roads like that to drive through around here. Beautiful!

    Thanks Marc,
I just secured a Liability Policy, two months, with a 25% surcharge for 'sports car', it came to 409 Euros. Not terrible for the reassurance it provides. My regular US insurer gave me an amendment for collision and damage at no cost.

    Best,

Keep in mind that speed fines in Scandinavia are absolutely INSANE....!

I am buying an F12 or Lusso to tour Europe for the next six months starting in May.

Does anyone know if there is a club that organizes drives or a site where groups go for touring europe in exotics, preferably at high speeds?
