I was curious if anyone knows whether 575M brakes fit on 456m? (Calipers/pads/rotors). In particular the later 456, not the early 456 with ATE brakes. I have heard that they are ‘shared’ between cars but I want to know if they actually are the same or cross mountable.
Same size rotors. Here are the specs on both so you can judge for yourself. Piston sizes on rear calipers are much larger on 456M because of 2+2 configuration and more weight on rear when loaded. 456M on top. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Part numbers for pads come up with the 550. Since the calipers are interchangeable between 550/575, you can likely run 575 components.
I did some additional digging. At least in the fronts, they should cross over between the two cars….both 575M and 456Ms use the same hubs (eg Right front are both 184626). Same hubs means same mounting points between the cars. That also means a wider range of brake options for the 456M fronts. I would need to do more digging about the rears later.
Thoughts on the early 456 GT? I don't need new brakes yet, but when I do, I was thinking what would my options be... I have the earlier brakes "teves" I believe?
Front brake rotors are only 315 mm F on 2.7 456 GTs, and yes, Teves braking system with hydraulic boost instead of vacuum boost. Rears are the same size as 456M/575M at 310 mm. Here is the best descriptions of the Teves system I have seen, even if they are for a Thunderbird and an Alfa.
Interesting! The 315/310 size is the same as the 512, and the calipers look very similar to the OEM ATE calipers on my TR too. The PN are NOT the same, so It’s more likely they shared the same primary contractor. in case anyone is interested, I posted the technical details in this thread in the TR subforum: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/posts/148318756/
Thank you for sharing..... are we sure we have the Mark II system or the Mark IV system? I will keep researching!
