NHL 2021-22

And believe it or not, I used to play hockey - 47 years ago.
And I still have all my ancient equipment - and actual, 100% WOOD sticks.
The only new things I got were a pair of Koho gloves in about 2002, and a new pair
of CCM skates in 2000 or so.

Bobby Clarke, Bill Barber, Rick MacLeish, Dave Schultz, Andre Dupont, Reggie Leach, Bernie Parent, Mel Bridgeman, I remember a lot of them....

 

Whisky...we'll have to test you on Flyers roster first expansion year when several journeymen AHLers finally got their chance at the show. Barry Ashbee, Mike Nykoluk, Willie "The Whip" Marshall....

And Andre DuPont played in Omaha as we were a Rangers farm team until I think 1972,
then the Atlanta Flames came into existence and we somehow got affiliated with them.
I don't believe I ever saw Dupont play here, but my friends did before I moved here.

'Everybody' wanted to be Bobby Clarke or Dave Schultz, I wanted to be Reggie Leach. Or Derek Sanderson....

In 72 I was 14, but also, in 72 was when we moved here from SoCal, hockey didn't
really exist in SoCal even though they had the Kings, I lived 50 miles east of LA.

 

My wife is a Boston native (well, Revere) and she and her family were Bruins fans. Derek Sanderson was her favorite player. He had Crohn's disease, and a bad case of it before most people knew what it was, and well before any of the terrific new meds that have been approved to treat it in the past 15 years. My wife suffered terribly from Crohn's all of her life. Mis-diagnosed when she was in her teens and finally dx'ed our second year of marriage. Most people knew Clarkie was diabetic.

Bob. I gave my tix to friends for the VGK - Canes game.; I watched it on TV. VGK was impressive with a strong 3rd period push to tie the game...and this coming after a long (and wining) road trip and having played Washington the previous night in a hard fought 1-0 victory. It was an entertaining game that might just be a preview of the SC finals. My wife has action on the Canes at 14-1 to win it all this year.

 

That was brutal. He may get suspended for that.

VGK fans - Eichel debuts tonight. Are you excited?

 

Canes bounce back with OT winner vs. Pens after getting zeroed by Caps. Another 3 games in 4 nights stint. Just prior to this they played 5 games in 7 days. Carolina announced their first outdoor game in the stadium series: next February vs. Caps.

 

Canes- Avs tonight. Two NHL teams with highest points per game average. Sold out

 

And, of course, the lowest scoring game of the night...

Whisky: My mistake in my cloudy post. I did not mean they score the most goals per game, I meant that they earn the most points ( 2 possible) average per game played. There were over 70 shots on goal, with one goal scored (the other EN). Stats showed 57 scoring opportunities. Fast paced, thumping checks, play-off hockey. Crowd was wound up. The Mayor won't like this, but I think these two are the Stanley Cup finalists. My wife holds a big 22-1 odds bet slip at Bellagio for Canes Cup win. Torn loyalties (old and new) at game tomorrow: Canes vs. pathetic Flyers. I am really sad about my old favorite franchise. Ed Snyder rolling over. And Ed Van Impe, where are you now?

 

Oh good grief, the average fan doesn't count shots on goal, just like they don't count pitches or at-bats in baseball,
possessions in basketball or football, all anyone cares about is points....
I cannot remember a driver that led the most laps of a 500 mile race, only to lose on the last lap...

 

Ovie tied with Jagr for most goals, will he get the tie-breaking goal tonight to put him alone in 3rd place all-time?

I can't stand Ovie but I respect his tremendous skill and career. Old time hockey vs. Canes last night. He gets tying goal with 5 minutes left on power play (that should not have happened) and then in shootout scores game winner after 3 Canes guys miss and first two Caps miss. Trade deadline Monday.

 

Can you explain the 'that should not have happened'?
