What I hear is that lots of people have big debt reserves and just draw on that to buy very expensive items for "cash"

It's justified because the borrowed cash (not for cars) earns more money for them than the cost.

 

We will know how this turns out soon enough, max 2 years I reckon.

 

That looks good. I saw a dark blue one today out and about. First time I’ve seen one outside the showroom.

They’re a huge car, to be honest you could almost call it a GT, will you replace your car with something more modern Steve?

 

This: everyone using their “home equity” to finance a ‘lifestyle’. Basically NEVER end up actually owning anything. I can’t believe the number of people getting close to retirement that still have outstanding mortgages.

Oh I agree with that completely and I plan to skid in to the grave on the bones of my arse, but I think there may end up being quite a few unhappy people when the next crunch comes...

 

There always are, however there also people who use the current situation to great advantage, for some it’s a chance to make a huge difference to their retirement by taking debt on now.

I'm not sure if this is the right place but I wanted to put out a plea for any information, help or advice that anyone might be able to provide - the 550 Maranello which I own with my brother was stolen from my home garage in Kew, Victoria on Thursday of last week (20 January) while we were away. Both sets of keys were taken so the car was just driven out and away.

The car is VIN ZFFZR49D000113188 - argento Nurburgring 101/C, engine F133A50617, assembly #30393; black leather with grey carpets. Vic reg RPA 534. The car was completely standard in beautiful condition. It has been in the family since 2002 and had done 28,950 kms. Image Unavailable, Please Login

If your house was ransacked and other items stolen, it may turn up. If it was targetted, not so good. Often the police have good intelligence about who's doing what, so you never know. Very sorry to hear about.

Of corse, I presume though that you are talking about people who actually have tangible assets (other than a single family home) to offset the loan against... Debt when you actually own assets is different to the peopleI’m talking about who actually OWN nothing, just a big pile of debt. House, cars, even the bloody honeymoon in many cases is all on the never-never...

 

Those people get into financial trouble no matter what the state of the economy is.
