Hi all Came across something odd today in just one of the air box inlet pipes. It’s about half way down it’s length. Can anyone cast any light on if it should or shouldn’t be there? Image Unavailable, Please Login Matt
this is the pipe coming from the fresh air intake going to the air box? How do you see it 1/2 way in the pipe, did you take it out and make it straight and look in it?
Thanks for taking a look the original photo was me just popping it off the air box. next photo is from removing the pipe entirely. Seems to be a dodgy repair of a rip, but with a closed end cardboard tube! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Someone selling the car and just wanted the broken pipe hidden and did not care about what they used. It would raise other general car concerns for sure.
it’s certainly possible someone’s cut corners. I’m not concerned about the car too much. It’s not a garage queen but in the 10 months of ownership I’ve covered over 2000 miles without it missing a beat. I’m currently changing the clutch so getting a good inspection along the way. it should breathe a bit more freely once I’ve undone the odd mod!
Thanks allandwf. Ditto with my pipe that was blocked off, but no surprise really with the air hitting a dead end!
Should definitely be empty! Looks like someone has made a poor attempt to "structurally" bolster the tube. Needs replacing or at the very least repairing with duct tape. I removed mine completely and sprayed it with some black plastic paint and i came out looking new so I would just find one on eBay. You may need to go up through your wheel arch and remove teh wheel arch liner to get at properly.
