Been thinking of selling my 2005 F430 spider to get a 488 GTB.... which car do you think looks better? The 488 is growing on my because the big side vent, reminds me of a 308... when I look at my F430 it looks thin and plain.. thoughts? Not sure if the F430 will go up in value from here, some people say yes others say no.

I'm not sure either will race up in value, both have sold in high numbers. If you want an appreciating Ferrari its needs to be limited numbers.

Out of the 2 its NA vs Turbo for me. I am not a fan of Turbo's and go in any gear boost. The 488 is the better looking car to me it looks like a modern Supercar, but the F430 is aging well.

How much more is it to get into a 488, £100k? Is the 488 a £100k more car, I don't think so! for a £100k on top I'd be going Scuderia or CS, limited number cars, NA and will definitely go up in value!

If you want a keeper find a 458 spider, prices in uk are going very high.

I am in the same boat, thinking about selling my 360 for a 488. I am not a fan of the 458, the lack torque and synthetic sound reminds me of the soundtrack from a Huracan. I know people swear by the 458 but I was underwhelmed when I drove it. I think the 488 is the nicest looking modern Ferrari, I love the vents, the speed is insane, and it sounds pretty good with no cats and an X-Pipe. I will probably get both, it's hard to sell a straight piped Ferrari, they just don't sound this sweet anymore.

That looks to have £10k worth of HRE wheels and some suspension mods. Looks lovely.

You can get a 458 to sound lovely, better than a 488 could ever sound. The 458 is enjoying the "last of the NA's" so its bound to go up and be a favourite. A F430 is a relative bargain now really, because what Ferrari you own, its still a Ferrari!!

I'm on the opposite end of this boat. I really like my new-to-me 360 but the 308 is the old girlfriend that I miss. Honestly, I think the 308 (for me anyways) was a more fun car to drive.

It's all about emotion IMHO - With any of these modern cars none of them are going to be our retirement funds (gated 430s and definitely gated 599s exceptions perhaps) so assuming your 430 is an F1 and if it does not make your heart flutter when you look at it and the 488 does - and you can financially make the jump then do it. Most everyone on here worked their butts off and made good choices to even have realized what is/was probably a lifelong dream of Ferrari ownership so it is really about that "OMG that is MINE" moment and obviously the driving/enjoyment of the car.

I personally think the 430s are beautiful and reminiscent of the infamous "shark nose" Ferrari's of my favorite racing era so I love them and damn near bought one but after not liking my 360F1 (just due to the early F1 sloppiness) I had to find/stretch for a gated 430 - then this breathtaking 2014 458 Spider came along and I jumped.

I think the 488s are absolutely gorgeous from any/all angles - arguably "prettier" than my 458 - but the NA, spec of my car and Pininfarina design keep me from considering a 488 or F8.

You can't go wrong with a 488 - some don't like the sound - some do - you can tweak it with pipes and exhaust but you will never get a V8 turbo to sound like an V8 NA - but what the 488 lacks (?) in sound it makes up for in performance and to your eyes looks and all that matters.

When I had a puncture in my 355 and "had" to drive the 458 for a week one of my friends laughed hysterically that I "had to drive my other Ferrari" - funny in perspective - Most people look at posters or collect models and never own a real Ferrari - the fact that you have one and are in a conundrum about whether to go from one to another is a GREAT position to be in and you can't lose either way.

    Cheers :)

Does not apply to me as can just about afford to run a 430, no money for 2 ferraris and no room in garage. Such is life being poor, you should try it

Hey my friend- Definitely not rich by any stretch- I spend pretty much every spare penny on the cars and even more on storage! Cheap house with 1 car garage for DD- My point was it doesn't matter if you have 1 Ferrari or 50 we are all fortunate and should go with our hearts- If the guy has a 430 and a 488 makes his heart flutter and he is comfortable trading "up" then go for it. No wrong decision and a great problem to have :)

    Cheers :)

This is not an easy decision. In my eyes, there is a gigantic difference in performance between the naturally aspirated V8 engine and the new turbo engine. The difference is like night and day. Hard to resist! But the problem is that you get used to the performance relatively quickly and suddenly other values start to count again. So it could be that you'll soon miss the F430 Spider again. Because this car is not considered one of the last mid-engine Ferraris with the typical "analog" Ferrari soul for nothing.

I had 20 years of 911 Turbo's, last one I had was 997 Gen1 Manual that I had tuned to 650bhp and 850nm, it was a weapon and motorbike quick. but it was so easy to drive fast a bit like driving a fast Golf, and to get to the point of drama, you where going way to fast. Even though it had a full Klein system on it it still sounded awful from driving seat! It made me realize its not all about out right speed and traffic light grand Prix's. There is so much more to a car.

I am in the same boat. 9 x 911's, and a few Turbo's. The last was also a 997.1 TT manual. The speed, although brutal became boring to me. Rather the NA all day long these days. Hearing a V8 at high revs is magic.

If one has enough spare pennies to spend on 2 Ferraris.... that's ALOT of spare pennies. I had no spare pennies for mine, just got lucky with stock and bitcoin; and I can do a lot of DYI.... hence I bought one!
