I suppose everyone thinks their car is more valuable than it really is. I just got an appraisal from a professional car appraiser because insurance company requested it. The car is a US spec 1972 GT. Appraiser deems it a 2+ car. Is this value in line with that condition? Excerpt from the report below. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Maybe a little behind the curve. It would be interesting to see which of the sources he accessed in making the appraisal. Most insurance appraisals are on the high side...
Wouldn’t it be a 73 regardless that it sat for years unsold. Was an awesome original color spec. would he give it more value if you had it returned to the original interior spec?
Watch the most recent Hagerty valuation video. They come up with a value for a three condition Dino. It contradicts the Hagerty top cars to invest in. Unless something has substantially happened to your Dino that I am not aware of, I can give your name and number to a handful of people who would write you a check, sight unseen, today for that car in that condition within 24 hours or less. I’m not saying what you should or should not insure it for, but it is interesting times
That seems low to me, but I don’t follow the market closely. I know one sold at $600+ in BaT crazy-land a while back and I recall it was a standard US GTS, looked very nice but not perfect.
Ostensible model year 1972. Completion date 1-25-1973. Delivery date 2-5-1974. It did not sit “for years unsold”. It sold one year and eleven days after being completed at the factory. I don’t know how long the journey took to the dealer. I don’t know if the appraiser adjusted value for color. My understanding is that if it is a factory color offered year of manufacture that it should not diminish judging points. That was a 206, if I’m not mistaken, which, as we all know, have a very different pricing structure these days.
That was kinda my point about everyone thinking their car is valuable. It’s easy and fun to remember the outliers and use them as a standard.
It was an L series in the Hagerty video. I didn’t mean sit for years in a negative connotation, it was typical for cars to sit for some time. I was going off memory, but thought it sold in 75 or 76, so I may have been wrong on that. The colors were super Patriotic, Bianca Polo exterior and red and blue interior. Evel Knievel all the way!!!
White body, blue chairs and red rugs. Ouch. What were they thinking? Oh, and yes, you are right, an L series.
God Bless the 70’s. I wonder if it was order to a clients spec or if it was ordered that way by the dealership. I am in Houston, but just about everyone here would refer to the blue color as “Luv Ya Blue” aka light blue.
Shawn, I’m not sure I get your meaning. IIRC they valued it at about $450? How does that contradict? Thx!
The pasta user in the video says he thinks it is a condition 3 car, the owner thought -1. Owner states he paid $425 about 7-8 years ago. The appraiser says he thinks it is valued at about the same level, but rising. If you look at the Hagerty Top 10 content, it values a condition 2 car for far less. I am guessing the value is driven off of actual insured values, on average, which would lag behind market values. Maybe my thought process is wrong, I just found it interesting two way different values from the same “source” in such a short period of time. I am sure there is a simple explanation.
DD. I know this car inside and out, literally. Unless you've done something drastic to it, and I know you haven't, the car should be (plus or minus some paint chips from use) close to the 99.5 point concours car it was when I sold it to you. I mean 3X platinum at the regional show when I owned it. 2nd in class at New Hope as well, twice losing to a really perfect Daytona. Can't imagine how that makes it a 2+ now, but hey, who am I to judge? (See what I did there?) And value feels a little low. Not outrageously so, but 10% maybe a little more? Oh, and if you're selling, don't forget I have 1st right of refusal. Dave
How come I only have 2 platinum trophies? You misplace the third? Oh, and yeah. I’m entertaining bids that have a 5 handle…..
