    Greetings all.
This weekend I will be meeting with my rep at Ferrari of San Antonio to spec a 296.
Anything in particular I should be aware of? Any options to be sure to add or avoid?

I was already warned to expect a 2yr wait which is a mind bendingly long time but I’m doing it anyway…

are you planning on keeping it long term or will you likely get rid of it in a few years?

I’ll likely keep it a year or two at most.

i think in general, options that help with resale are:
    --front axle lifter
--red exterior with tan or black interior
--interior carbon fiber (especially steering wheel / center console)
    --ferrari shields
    --car play
    --upgraded seats (racing or daytona)

im not sure there is anything i would try to avoid with the exception of an ugly car (weird interior color combinations)

Can you ask what exactly is included in Fiorano pack? Thanks in advance ;)

SirTony is spot on. If your plan is to keep it a short while, then focus on items that help resale. Most options will be sunk cost, but they aid in someone choosing yours vs another 296 if they flood the market.

Options In order of importance I’d say:
    1) popular color combo
    2) shields
    3) carbon fiber steering wheel
    4) lift

Beyond that it’s whatever you like and possibly what sales rep thinks would help with resale etc.

I’d also make sure you come out understanding all the forced dependent build options. Ie front lift also requires AFS lighting which significantly increases its cost. Likewise the higher end wheels require $1500 titanium bolts (makes me laugh every time). With carbon racing seats you likely need the seat lifter. With non racing seats you need the seat type plus color trims plus possibly full electric. So lots of gotchas that add up quickly and may help you rethink the option you originally wanted.

And last double check if they have you sign a required buyback contract. I had to do 2yrs on my 296 order. You can’t sell before 6mo, and you must give them first refusal for first X years capped at MSRP. This is to prevent you from flipping it and also give the selling dealer any potential upside on a flip. It’s not a major concern for me but does limit potential upside for a fast trade on a hot new model. May impact how you think about how long to keep it.

    Most importantly, have fun!

I think they covered the big ones up above. On average options are around $50-100K (depending on what you choose, how nuts you go with paint and CF, etc.) so keep that in mind... if you'll want to flip this car in 1-2 years you'll likely spec it with $40-50K in options over the sticker price of ~$307K.

Pretty much all covered already, would be careful with how much CF you add, that can get expensive quickly. You should be able to spec something really nice for 50-80k in options. If you're planning on flipping it, I'd try to keep it under that 400k mark, but that's just me.

My rep told me to build out hifi stereo instead of apple play.

Overall, I'm doing: Rosso Corsa / Cuiouo + black, red stitching, red horse on the headrest, CF wheel, lifter / AFS, daytona seats (ventilated / electric), Hifi stereo, and thats about it as it will likely be resold for Spyder. My goal is to be sub $400 for sure as noted above.

I'm a first time new Ferrari buyer and was told 2-3 years from our local dealer. Apparently 40+ people on list already. I want it yesterday, but am okay to wait...I'm sure the anticipation will get VERY strong when reviews of the cars are released.

Most dealers are going to be 40+ by this stage of the game. Your build looks pretty solid, I would include maybe the Carplay and the Parking Sensors though.

Hi Randon, and congrats for your 296. I've ordered last august (here in Italy) cause I was following it since march. First time Ferrari owner too. Mine is expected to arrive first semester of 2023, and there were just 3 allocation available, one has become mine fortunately.

From what I've been told, now the waiting list is really long, and the car, once it'll be reviewed by journalists, will be even more desiarable. The prices will go up during the year, and will increase in '23. So, well done!!!!!!

Mine is Rosso Imola, Black alcantara interiors + red stitching and Red cavallino, Fiorano Pack + Atelier livery color (i still have to decide which color instead of using the common silverstone grey even if in person is stunning on Imola red). Let's see what to do. Really hoping to be able to take it home with no delays, as I'm starting building my new house next month (with a larger garage) and really hope to be able to finish it by the 296 arrival. Can't wait to try it on the road too.....my dealer said that in spring all customers around the world will have to occasion for a send with it.

Yea my dealer has the same 2yr right of first refusal. Didn’t know about the capped at msrp part. My local dealer has a reputation for offering crappy trade in offers so this will be a bit of a leap of faith.

My advice is to spec what you love. Why spend $350k plus for something you don’t love?

If you love CF, go for it. We have only spec’d exterior CF on one car. It was Bianca Italia and the CF was tastefully minimal. But that is our taste. Lifter is essential for us. Choose a color that you like. Personally, we have never owned a red F Car. I just don’t love them for me, even though there are some beautiful reds!

Have some ideas but also let the experience guide you. My wife helps pick the colors(actually, she picks them!), I pick special options. We thoroughly enjoy the process and we have never had the same color twice, nor have we ordered what I imagined we would!

    Enjoy and congratulations!

I was too naive to think the Carbon steering wheel and seats would come with Fiorano pack lol

I was wondering about the limited AF livery colors and whether atelier would offer flexibility. Any idea on cost? Let us know what you find out in general. Sounds like a gorgeous build.

My understanding as I read it is that they have the right to buy it at the price of a competing offer you present so long as it’s under MSRP. So I don’t think you’ll get lowballed. If it’s over then you can’t sell unless they pass on it. I’m sure if they can’t profit on it they wouldn’t take it at any price. But this protects Ferrari from flippers taking all the allocations, and gives the dealers a chance to profit on the upside of new models since they can’t charge ADMs like other brands.

Seemed fine to me. If it depreciates it makes no real difference for me. If it’s worth a premium I just can’t benefit from it for 2yrs (or really +18mo since I couldn’t really sell for first 6mo regardless). But in that case I’d still get to drive a brand new model for up to 2yrs essentially for free (minus tax & maybe interest).

Well that certainly seems more fair. If I have an offer over sticker and they are capped at sticker then I’d be ok with that.
I’ll clarify later today when I go do the build and paperwork.

Hi there, just came across your post and wanted to see how you ended up making out with your build. I’ve also been given the chance to build out a 296 and I would be a first time Ferrari buyer / owner. How did it go?

I went with the imola red on black. Daytona race seats and interior carbon. Front end lift, Hifi and CarPlay.
I didn’t do much exterior carbon. I haven’t been sent the pricing breakdown yet but I’ll ping them now. If they send me a file that I can upload, I will.
