It was probably tracked. I had the front skirt repainted upon purchase due to rock chips beneath the ppf. Not a big deal. These cars are made to be tracked/driven hard. In fact, they tend to suffer if not driven hard. My 348 responds well to "Italian Tune Ups." Also, the traction control kicks on a lot in the rear due to age rotted tires. Shes getting new rubber this spring. Does the 599 have a F1 Accumulator tank like the F430?
Like you said I thought I had addressed all the stickies in my 599. That was until I looked at the cover for the tool kit. What a mess!!! Have not figured out how to fix it yet. I don't want to have to buy a kit just for the sticky cover. I was thinking of applying a similar material over top of it. But it has the white graphics that would need to be addressed to be original looking.
1) the car was probably tracked 2) tires have been bad for first 2 years of ownership causing excessive traction control to take over Nothing to really ponder on. I don't look down on a car because it's been tracked or driven in the rain. I assess their condition as-is. These cars are made to be driven. The worst thing for these cars is to not drive them, and secondly to drive them like a grandpa. Sure, tracking isn't great but within moderation, it doesn't bother me. In fact, I'd rather have a car from a car guy who tracked it occasionally than a car from some guy who doesn't know how to change his own oil, drives in auto mode, and never gets above 3k rpms.
I wasn't commenting on your car, this is in general. I agree that cars driven are better than cars that sit!
Up until you have to change out $10-20K worth of CCM brakes, sounds like a great idea. Why ride around on trashed tires for two years?
That is the one that scares me the most. Shocks and stuff are all annoyances in cost but the brakes are a different story.
Time flies... lol New job, moved, new home, got married, bought 2 other Ferrari's, etc. Also, was waiting to buy a new set of wheels.
I bought an accumulator for my F430 for $80 from Poland. It was a Fiat part. Anyone known cross compatible affordable options for the 599?
My understanding is that it is an age item and should be replaced. My F430 was shifting noticeably better when I did its. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Has not been an issue on the V12s. Mine is 18 years old and still working fine. Better just to do the three year fluid change, bleed, leak check, self-test, and PIS optimization regularly and that will identify most issues. Most F1 problems are caused by lack of routine maintenance. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Great advice! Ty. I’ll just do fluids, tie rods, and brake pads. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
@Ricambi America Any way to get just 12 spark plugs like you have in the service kit? Only lets you buy in quantities of 8 at a time.
The 430 has a bladder type accumulator and the 599 has a clylinder/piston type. This is much harder to access on a 599. Due to the need to remove the transaxle mounts to clean the filter, remobe the cooler and lines etc... etc... I decided to get this done at a great Indy in Naples for a little over $1K. It would take me at least a day to change the trans lube and purge/exchange the F1 ATF plus loss of blood and sweat.
