HI all Last weekend I started stripping the various bits to install a new clutch. It’s created a great opportunity to tidy a few bits in the engine bay. I need to tap in to you peeps knowledge please! Tail lights - has anyone ever separated one? It looks like the lens and back casing are bonded together. I need access as the reflective lens inside has rotted to dust. Any tips? Rear panel (where tail lights mounted) - the paint is a bit messy and would benefit from a refresh. Has anyone achieved a good result at home? Any advice on paint to use and if results from rattle cans are worthy Alignment tool - do I really need to splash out on one to assemble the clutch? Thanks!
Do you have the kit type or the conical? I think I saw a conical one advertised that said they only work in single plate clutches only?
Rear lights might come apart if you put them in the oven at about 100 degrees C. Front ones like Carello lower fogs definitely do as I've done those on mine and also my Landrover (also Carello). Depends if its actually glued at the seam or plastic welded together.
Thanks Tony. Not sure if they’ll fit in my oven but I’ll take a look! anyone else know if they are glued or welded
It should be easy to work out. Under normal temperatures, a mastic type sealant (which is what you are hoping for) is pretty solid, but goes soft under heat. A plastic solvent/weld won't change at all. If putting them in the oven bothers you, a hot hair drier or heat gun (with care) will do the same job, you just need to take your time and make sure its evenly warm before you try and part them...
Mine were falling apart, so it'll likely just take a little heat and some prying. They're really brittle! go slow. sjd
Did my clutch last year. You CANNOT do it without a alignment tool. as said above, cheaper variants about.
Thanks all for input Thought I’d share back some info for those searching forums in the future. I grabbed a £10 clutch alignment set off eBay like this one. Don’t bother! Kit is fine for what it costs but no good for 348 I’ve sketched out a tool and passed it to my old man to whip up!
